Mission

As a Systems Engineer specialising in Higher Education IT Services at EPFL's School of Engineering, you'll have the unique opportunity to shape the future of digital platforms at one of the most prestigious universities in the world.

Main duties and responsibilities
  • Implement and optimise Site Reliability Engineering (SRE) & DevOps methodologies
  • Streamline IT processes through automation and the elimination of repetitive IT tasks
  • Manage Identity and Access Management (IAM) through AD and LDAP
  • Enhance and maintain the IT security posture across all IT services
  • Ensure smooth application deployments, supported by a robust server infrastructure
  • Provide advanced, 3rd-level IT support and expertise to resolve complex technical issues
  • Oversee and ensure compliance with software licensing regulations
  • Establish comprehensive data management & governance protocols, encompassing policies for data handling, backup and recovery, retention, access control, and life-cycle management
  • Establish strict IT compliance standards, ensuring alignment with relevant laws, regulations, and policies to fortify the security, integrity, and confidentiality of data and IT services
Profile

Required Skills & Experience:

  • At least 5 years of hands-on experience in system engineering, DevOps, or SRE roles
  • Demonstrated proficiency in automating IT processes and IT security measures
  • Solid understanding of Linux and Windows in server environments
  • Solid experience on handling large datasets, storage systems and storage access protocols
  • Hands-on experience with data centre infrastructure (racks, servers, switches etc)
  • Proficiency in using configuration management and CI/CD pipelines as well as programming and scripting languages like Python, shell, Powershell, Ansible
  • Solid experience on monitoring systems
  • Solid knowledge of networking fundamentals (HTTPS, DNS, TCP/IP & load balancing)
  • Strong understanding & proficiency in software licence management
  • Robust comprehension of IT governance and IT compliance concepts, coupled with the ability to implement and enforce relevant procedures efficiently.

Nice-to-Haves:

  • Experience with Infrastructure as Code (IaC)
  • Experience with container technologies (Docker, Kubernetes)
  • Prior experience in leading IT teams.

Additional Info:
