We are looking for a Chapter Lead of Core System Engineering, reporting to the Head of Software Engineering to help strengthen our core systems and platforms to enable Zurich to build towards being Australia’s leading Digital Insurer. You will be responsible for several core systems, as well as a roadmap to help strengthen or modernize the platform to help shape the future technology roadmap.

As a Chapter Lead, you will be responsible for the overall platform roadmap, health, management of the staff, and vendor relationship (where applicable) for this designated platform. The Chapter Lead is focused on providing technical expertise, steering the chapter’s capability, and the “how” work is conducted.

The Chapter lead builds a culture of continuous improvement and excellence by recruiting, developing, and evaluating a group of people sharing the same functional skillset and ensuring professional standards are maintained in the squads.

Important to your success - let's grow together

  • Multiple years experience in a similar role
  • Experience in financial services or similar regulated industry (preferred)
  • Strong understanding of all aspects of the systems/software development life cycle, including agile development methodologies
  • Technical knowledge of programming, system design, IT infrastructure and database concepts.
  • Experience in DevOps and CI/CD tools and techniques
  • An appreciation of both IT and business strategy.
  • Experience with programming and application design, focusing on CICS/COBOL mainframe development.
  • Experience with Domain Driver Architecture and Domain Oriented Microservices Architecture.
  • Understanding of Mainframe development practices.
  • People management experience, including performance management and conflict management.
  • Demonstrates Servant Leadership (non-hierarchical and collaborative)
  • Solid Technical Leadership understands career paths in crafts and technical toolkits.
