About the job
Your team
We are looking for an EPFL master’s student to join our four-person Customised Reporting team for a 12-month academic placement. The team produces highly bespoke investment reports and brings deep business expertise; you will complement this knowledge with strong engineering, automation and applied AI capabilities. Working closely with the Customised Solutions team and the relevant data teams, you will help transform a largely manual production model into robust, scalable and AI-enabled reporting solutions. Your work will directly contribute to reducing manual workload, capacity constraints and operational risk, while helping the team adopt modern tools and ways of working.
Your role
Key responsibilities
- Map the end-to-end customised reporting production model, including effort, tools, data flows, controls, risks, dependencies and failure points.
- Identify, assess and prioritise opportunities to industrialise and automate data aggregation, validation and reporting workflows, including the additional complexity created by external bank data.
- Work with Customised Reporting, Customised Solutions and data teams to design solutions aligned with existing architecture, data governance, security and control requirements.
- Design, develop, test and implement practical solutions and AI-enabled use cases for data extraction, anomaly detection, commentary generation and report production.
- Build robust End User Computing capabilities that empower reporting specialists while ensuring appropriate documentation, controls and maintainability.
- Deliver working tools and prototypes, a prioritised roadmap, documented procedures, user guidance and team training, ensuring an effective handover and a structured academic report.
Your profile
- EPFL student in the final year of a relevant master’s degree and eligible for a 12-month academic internship.
- Strong analytical, quantitative and problem-solving skills, with the ability to translate business needs into practical technical solutions.
- Solid programming experience in Python or an equivalent language, together with skills in data manipulation, visualisation and workflow automation.
- Practical knowledge of applied AI, including large language models, retrieval-augmented generation and model evaluation.
- An understanding of the End User Computing lifecycle and familiarity with Microsoft Copilot, GitHub, Snowflake or cloud-based AI services would be advantageous.
- Curious, collaborative and hands-on, with the communication skills to work effectively across business and technology teams and support knowledge transfer.
- Knowledge of banking or investment reporting is welcome but not required.
This opportunity is intended for students completing a Master’s thesis required by their academic programme. Only candidates whose Master’s degree requires an internship are eligible to apply.
