The Social Services of the Canton of Glarus, with their specialist areas of professional guardianship, subsistence security, child and youth welfare, victim counseling, and central services, form a service center in the social sector of the canton. They promote the assurance of economic and personal independence for needy and help-seeking individuals.

We are looking for a

Head of Social Services Department 80–100 %

starting September 1, 2026, or by arrangement, with the workplace in Glarus.

Tasks

• Overall responsibility for the management and strategic development of Social Services (personnel, professional, organizational, and financial)
• Promotion of a respectful leadership culture as well as support and development of employees
• Control through annual planning, budgeting, and controlling
• Initiation and implementation of future-oriented concepts and further development of processes, structures, and quality standards
• Review of social assistance orders, objection and complaint responses, and financing issues
• Participation in the management of the main Social Department

Requirements

• Education at tertiary level in social work
• Personality with proven professional and leadership experience in the social sector and in the service areas of Social Services
• Target group-appropriate written and oral communication skills
• Knowledge of administrative organization and understanding of political contexts
• Resilience and high social competence
• Negotiation skills and implementation strength
