The rise of online booking in Switzerland
Online booking | 2 September 2026
Quick answer: according to a national Innofact survey, 61% of Swiss people have already booked online at least once, with restaurants, medical appointments and hairdressers leading the way. For businesses, an online booking system reduces missed appointments, saves staff time and improves the customer experience.
A national survey conducted by Innofact shows that 61% of Swiss people have already used online booking at least once. Restaurant bookings, medical appointments and hairdresser appointments are the most requested services online. According to this survey, booking tables in restaurants ranks first with 30.9% of preferences, followed by medical appointments (25.7%) and hairdresser appointments (23.6%).
More surprisingly, online booking with healthcare professionals also attracts significant interest: 25.7% of respondents have already used it, including 18.4% for a dentist and 11.3% for a physiotherapy session. Furthermore, 10% of respondents have made an online appointment at a car garage, a beauty salon or for sports activities (booking tennis courts, for example). Online bookings remain less common for driving schools (4.2%), tax consultancy firms (2.6%) and law firms (2.6%).
What are the benefits of an online booking system?
An online booking system offers many advantages to businesses and freelancers:
1. 24/7 Accessibility
Customers can book an appointment or service at any time, even outside office hours, a real plus for busy customers who often book outside traditional opening hours.
2. Convenience for customers
They can book from any connected device (computer, tablet, smartphone), without a phone call or visit. This type of system can be integrated directly into your website, your Facebook page, your Instagram account or your Google Business Profile.
3. Reduction of human errors
Customers check their booking details themselves before confirming, which limits input or scheduling errors.
4. Time management optimisation
A good system avoids double bookings and optimises team time use for more efficient planning.
5. Reduction of missed appointments
Automatic reminders sent before each appointment significantly reduce absences and thus associated revenue losses.
6. Collection of valuable data
Each interaction is recorded: customers’ preferences and booking habits. This data allows personalising the customer experience, better understanding your target audience’s needs and making more informed marketing decisions.
7. Increased customer satisfaction
Online booking offers a smoother and more convenient experience. It is also possible to automate review requests after each service to naturally increase positive feedback.
8. Time saving for staff
Less time spent managing bookings by phone, more time devoted to service quality.
9. Promotion of special offers
The system can also be used to highlight promotions or discounts to encourage more frequent bookings.
10. Activity monitoring and management
Analytical tools help identify trends, measure the effectiveness of your marketing actions and continuously adjust your offer.
