The Centre for Emerging Viral Diseases (CMVE) is a joint structure of the Geneva University Hospitals (HUG) and the Faculty of Medicine of the University of Geneva (UNIGE). Its mission covers clinical expertise, the development of innovative diagnostic approaches, epidemiological surveillance, translational research, and rapid response to epidemics.

The CMVE played a key role during the COVID-19 pandemic and has been actively involved in other health emergencies, notably the Mpox epidemic and field missions related to Marburg and Ebola viruses. In recognition of its expertise, the Centre was designated a WHO Collaborating Centre for Epidemic and Pandemic Diseases in 2023 and an expert laboratory of the WHO CoViNet (coronavirus) network in 2024.

In recent years, the CMVE has experienced rapid growth, significantly expanding its research portfolio, funding sources, and collaboration network, and aims to strengthen its strategic positioning and visibility. To support this ambition, the Centre wishes to recruit a scientific coordinator.

In your role, you play a central part in supporting and coordinating the Centre’s activities, notably scientific events, research collaborations, and funding acquisition. You actively contribute to the CMVE’s evolution towards a more visible and strategically positioned entity by participating in the preparation of informational and presentation materials, the development of grant applications, and the promotion of the Centre’s activities, particularly via its website and various communication channels. Through your actions, you strengthen the Centre’s organisational structure, coordination capacity, and development with its partners and stakeholders.

You contribute to defining and implementing the CMVE’s medium- and long-term strategic vision. You support fundraising activities and initiatives aimed at enhancing the Centre’s visibility. You ensure effective coordination between research teams, the Geneva University Hospitals (HUG), the University of Geneva (UNIGE), and external partners. You participate in strengthening internal organisation and facilitate the smooth running of the Centre’s activities. You also provide support in preparing and organising the CMVE’s scientific and institutional events.

You facilitate the development, planning, and monitoring of research projects conducted within the Centre or in collaboration with external partners. You ensure smooth and efficient circulation of scientific and administrative information between research teams, platforms, clinical units, and institutional partners. You support the preparation and submission of research proposals as well as the organisation of scientific events, particularly with national and international funding bodies.

You develop and implement, in collaboration with HUG, UNIGE, and partner foundations, a fundraising strategy to support the Centre’s ambitions. You identify funding opportunities, whether in the form of grants, industrial partnerships, or philanthropic initiatives, and coordinate the preparation of the corresponding application dossiers. You establish and maintain strategic partnerships with public, private, and institutional actors active in infectious diseases, vaccinology, and epidemic preparedness.

You contribute to enhancing the CMVE’s visibility locally, nationally, and internationally, notably through website development and managing the Centre’s communication networks. You design and coordinate scientific communication activities such as events, seminars, conferences, annual reports, and institutional content. You actively participate in promoting the Centre’s role in epidemic preparedness, translational research, innovation, and the development of solutions addressing public health challenges.

Holder of a Bachelor’s degree in biomedical sciences, public health, virology, immunology, or a related field, you have solid experience in scientific coordination, complex project management, and multidisciplinary collaboration. Your background enables you to work comfortably at the interface between research, academic institutions, clinical partners, and external stakeholders.

You stand out for excellent writing, communication, graphic, and interpersonal skills. You are capable of synthesising complex scientific information, drafting high-quality strategic documents, and developing communication materials tailored to different audiences. Thanks to your organisational skills and ability to unite interlocutors with diverse profiles, you foster effective and constructive collaboration among various stakeholders.

Autonomous, proactive, and results-oriented, you know how to identify priorities, anticipate needs, and propose strategic solutions contributing to the Centre’s development. You demonstrate initiative, rigour, and flexibility in carrying out your tasks while maintaining a global vision of scientific and institutional issues.

Experience in fundraising, project management, or developing institutional partnerships is a significant asset for this position. Likewise, good knowledge of the global health landscape and international organisations active in infectious diseases represents a considerable advantage.

Finally, you have excellent command of both French and English, written and spoken, and are comfortable in a demanding international environment where quality interactions, diplomacy, and scientific excellence are essential.
