Job Description

To support this mission, Syngenta's hiring team is seeking an onsite Process Technology Laboratory Technician (m/f/d) in Münchwilen, Switzerland.
Purpose of the role
- Contribute to innovative process technology solutions for new or existing active ingredients.
- Develop and optimise laboratory and pilot procedures considering economic, ecological, and process safety aspects and generate key process data.
- Contribute to the creation and archiving of project documentation.
- Support the preparation and monitoring of pilot campaigns and plant start-ups.
- Contribute to knowledge retention and promote colleagues' expertise.
Your tasks
- Actively ensures compliance with regulations (GSU/HSE: laboratory rules, guidelines) and maintains safety, cleanliness, and order in the laboratory. Reports and resolves any deficiencies.
- Is responsible for the safe storage of laboratory chemicals and samples as well as careful handling and maintenance of laboratory equipment. Informs supervisors promptly about shortages.
- Independently conducts simple to complex experiments, especially process engineering basic operations using laboratory equipment (e.g. standard, HitecZang, specialised apparatus for characterising and isolating solids and liquids or their mixtures). Optimises laboratory and pilot procedures considering economic, ecological, and safety aspects.
- Analyses process data, develops SOPs, and suggests improvements. Supports less experienced laboratory technicians in equipment operation and methodological approaches.
- Assists with process upscaling activities and planning new experimental setups. Records and documents data and work results transparently, evaluates them, and makes concrete proposals for further experiments.
- Supervises and mentors less experienced laboratory technicians (including apprentices) in equipment operation and methodological approaches.
Qualifications
What you bring
- 3-year laboratory technician apprenticeship or equivalent qualification
- Excellent knowledge for safe handling of chemicals and clean working in the laboratory
- Excellent manual skills and knowledge in handling standard laboratory equipment and analytical instruments as well as specialised apparatus (laboratory automation, offline/online analytical devices, etc.); basic knowledge of laboratory automation
- Excellent knowledge of synthetic chemistry, physico-chemical separation methods (distillation, crystallisation, extraction, chromatography) and analytical methods (TLC, GC, HPLC and NMR)
- Excellent knowledge of common IT applications (e.g. MS Office, ELN, Mat Ref and Starlims); advanced IT skills
- Basic knowledge in specialised fields (e.g. statistical experimental design, process scaling)
- Besides general laboratory knowledge, this position requires a particular interest in process engineering fundamentals and basic operations – especially crystallisation, distillation, filtration, drying... The ideal candidate is motivated to further develop knowledge in scale-up activities and acquire an engineering mindset regarding experimental design, plant and process setups.
- Organisational skills and independent working style
- Constructive and productive thinking as a contribution to solving assigned problems; able to independently manage complex processes.
- Fluent oral and written skills in German and English
