In this role, you actively shape information security and cybersecurity in complex, data- and compute-intensive research environments. You take responsibility for ensuring that infrastructure, services, and workflows are secure, reliable, auditable, and adapted to applicable data protection and compliance requirements. You work closely with system administration, software engineering, data infrastructure, data analytics, and research support, connecting large-scale technical environments with sensitive data landscapes. You contribute to enabling demanding research projects in areas such as life sciences, medicine, data science, and artificial intelligence in a technically secure manner. As an information security and cybersecurity specialist, you build bridges between technology, processes, and stakeholders and develop security solutions aligned with national and international initiatives.
Responsibilities:
The focus is on the further development of a holistic security strategy for demanding IT, research, and infrastructure services.
Security requirements are analysed, assessed, and translated into practical solutions together with system, network, and application teams.
New technologies, platforms, and services are evaluated regarding risks, protection needs, compliance, and secure operation.
You identify vulnerabilities and security gaps, accompany their remediation, and subsequently monitor the effectiveness of the implemented measures.
Another focus is on the further development of access and authorisation concepts including MFA, key management, privileged accounts, and regular reviews.
You create, maintain, and continuously improve security policies, technical standards, operational guidelines, and audit documents.
You advise internal teams and specialists on secure cloud, data, automation, and AI/ML solutions and actively participate in security communities and projects.
Qualifications:
Completed master’s degree in computer science, cybersecurity, information systems, or a comparable practical qualification.
Several years of experience securing Linux systems and complex IT infrastructures; knowledge of cloud, HPC, storage, or web environments is particularly valuable.
Practical experience with security assessments, threat & vulnerability management, hardening, security monitoring, audits, and technical control checks.
Confident handling of network and security architectures as well as virtualisation, firewalls, segmentation, and access controls.
Experience with automation and reproducible operational models, for example with Python, Shell, Git, Ansible, or infrastructure as code.
Understanding of security governance, data protection, data classification, and established frameworks such as ISO 27001, NIST, or CIS.
Strong communication skills, high integrity, and the ability to convey security requirements clearly and solution-oriented.
