The Schwartzlin ward of the University Psychiatric Centre Bern (UPZ) offers a specialised, twelve-week psychotherapeutic treatment programme focusing on Cognitive Behavioural Therapy. Our patients suffer from various mental illnesses, including anxiety and obsessive-compulsive disorders, trauma-related disorders, personality disorders, stabilised psychoses, as well as multiple diagnoses with substance use disorders. As a permanent night watch, you are responsible for the professional and safe care of our patients during the night. With your calm, attentive, and appreciative manner, you create a reliable atmosphere and contribute significantly to ensuring that our patients experience safety and orientation even during the night. You can expect a varied and demanding psychiatric work environment where you can independently apply your nursing expertise. You will work closely with the interprofessional team and make an important contribution to patient- and recovery-oriented treatment.

Your tasks

• You ensure professional, patient- and recovery-oriented nursing and care during the night
• You observe the health status of our patients attentively, recognise changes early, and initiate appropriate measures according to the situation
• You ensure the safety of patients and act calmly, competently, and responsibly even in challenging situations
• You support patients during nocturnal crises, fears, restlessness, or sleep problems and offer professional, empathetic accompaniment
• You carry out nursing and medical interventions as well as prescribed measures competently
• You document relevant observations and nursing interventions carefully and ensure a complete flow of information
• You work independently during the night and take responsibility for your decisions and actions
• You maintain professional communication with the day shift as well as with the responsible medical and therapeutic specialists
• You actively contribute your observations and experiences to the further development of nursing quality and professionally implement evidence-based nursing concepts and current standards

Your profile

• You hold a diploma as a nursing specialist HF/FH, ideally with professional experience in psychiatry
• You enjoy working independently and feel comfortable in the role of permanent night watch
• You are interested in psychiatric and psychotherapeutic treatment concepts and approach people with various mental illnesses professionally, appreciatively, and empathetically
• You have a keen sense of observation and can act calmly and thoughtfully even in demanding situations
• You work reliably, responsibly, and independently and can set your priorities correctly during both quiet and challenging night hours
• You value collaboration with an interprofessional team and ensure good information exchange between night and day shifts
• You have good IT skills and are willing to continuously develop professionally and personally
