About the job
50%-100%
Department of Justice and Security, Cantonal Police, Main Department of Prevention
by arrangement
Tasks
Leadership: You lead the Community Policing department with four divisions and up to 60 employees. Together with your division heads, you create clear framework conditions, promote good collaboration and specifically develop your employees. Your department keeps the police visible, approachable and effective in the neighbourhood. It manages challenging areas with clear responsibility, fixed partners and defined goals. You ensure that police stations are accessible as reliable contact points for initial advice and reporting for the public and are responsible for hotspot policing in troubled locations. You ensure that processes are implemented uniformly and that quality is maintained. In doing so, you stay close to your employees, strengthen your division heads in their leadership roles and ensure that the goals of the Cantonal Police as well as the Main Department of Prevention are jointly supported.
Member of the Main Department of Prevention management: As a management member of the Main Department of Prevention, you help shape the further development of the main department as well as the newly established Community Policing department. You keep an eye on social and security-relevant developments, incorporate different perspectives and think beyond your own area of responsibility.
Consultation and committee work: You advise superiors on professional and strategic matters and develop well-founded, comprehensible decision-making bases. Once decisions are made, you ensure their implementation within your area of responsibility and make them understandable for your employees. You participate in cantonal, national and international committees and maintain close cooperation with partner organisations.
Operational and project management: You take over the leadership of police operations with up to 1000 personnel. This includes planned events such as demonstrations and major events as well as unplanned events where you take command ad hoc. In addition, you lead projects in your specialist area and accompany them from development to implementation within the organisation. Furthermore, you pass on your experience in training and further education.
Employment model and benefits: The position can be filled as a single post with 80%-100% or in top-sharing with two persons each at 50%-60%. 50%-60% is possible both as a single application and together as a tandem. We support different life and work models. Flexible working hours, reliable deployment planning and clear agreements create, as far as operational requirements allow, space for family, care, further education or other personal commitments. We offer thorough induction, targeted development opportunities and an appreciative leadership culture in which different perspectives are welcome. We especially encourage women to apply - alone or together as a tandem.
Profile
Experience: You have already led teams personnel-wise and ensured good collaboration. You have several years of leadership experience in operational police deployment or in a comparable function. Experience in leading demanding operations, in strategic projects or in cooperation with various partner organisations is an advantage.
Personality: You gladly take responsibility, provide orientation and shape a value-oriented culture. You ensure quality and reliability and grasp complex contexts with strategic foresight. You think beyond your own department and keep the common goals in view. Even in demanding and dynamic situations or before political committees, you appear credible, build trust and involve others in common concerns. You remain capable of acting, communicate comprehensibly and know your personal limits.
Education: You are a trained police officer with a federal professional certificate. In addition, you have completed police specialist and leadership training, for example a CAS in Police Leadership (CAS FIP). Equivalent education and further training as well as relevant leadership experience will be gladly considered.
Language: You express yourself clearly, understandably and appropriately for your counterpart both orally and in writing in German. Knowledge of French and English is an advantage.
