About the job
The Schaffhausen Hospitals include the Cantonal Hospital, the Psychiatric Services, the Radiology and Cardiology Posthof Neuhausen practices as well as the Neurology Practice Schaffhausen Centre. With over 1,700 employees, we ensure the extended medical and nursing basic care of the Schaffhausen region. Each year, we care for around 11,000 inpatients and 90,000 outpatients. In addition, we are an important training centre in the canton.
In this two-year training, you will work on various wards of the Cantonal Hospital Schaffhausen to learn the tasks of a health specialist. You will be accompanied and supported daily by your assigned mentors. Furthermore, during regular learning days with educational and professional supervisors, you can focus specifically on individual activities. After successfully completing your apprenticeship, you will be well trained and able to perform the tasks of a health specialist independently.
All fees and expenses will be covered by us as the training provider.
Requirements for the start of training:
- An employment of 6 to 12 months at the Cantonal Hospital Schaffhausen, depending on professional experience
- This employment serves as a basis for an aptitude test by us to decide whether we recommend or admit you for adult education according to Art. 32 BBV

What to expect
- Professional care and support of sick and elderly people
- Interesting nursing and medical-technical tasks
- Housekeeping and administrative activities
- Responsibility for the cleaning, disinfection and functionality of instruments and devices as well as for material procurement
What you bring to us
- At least 3 years of full-time professional experience – of which at least 2 years in long-term care or 1.5 years in acute care.
If you have worked 2 years in long-term care, the employment in the acute care of the Cantonal Hospital Schaffhausen is at least 12 months.
If you have worked 1.5 years in acute care, the employment at the Cantonal Hospital Schaffhausen is at least 6 months - Older than 25 years
- Workload of at least 80% and a maximum of 100%, complemented by one school day per week (20%)
- Good German skills (at least language level B2)
