Nurse in Outpatient Parenteral Antibiotic Therapy Consultation
To complete its team, the Infectious Diseases Service is looking for a nurse at a 70% activity rate, on a permanent contract, for its outpatient parenteral antibiotic therapy (OPAT) consultation. The starting date is scheduled for 1 January 2027.
Context
The Lausanne University Hospital (CHUV) is one of the five Swiss university hospitals. Thanks to its collaboration with the Faculty of Biology and Medicine of the University of Lausanne and EPFL, CHUV plays a leading role in medical care, medical research, and education.
The outpatient parenteral antibiotic therapy (OPAT) consultation of the Infectious Diseases Service allows patients requiring intravenous anti-infective treatment to continue their care on an outpatient basis when hospitalisation is no longer necessary. Unique in Switzerland, it places the patient at the centre of their care, promoting autonomy and adapting follow-up to their abilities and needs.
The consultation currently supports between 300 and 350 patients per year, with a median treatment duration of 15 days. The nursing team benefits from significant decision-making autonomy, particularly in choosing the mode of care, adapting treatment to outpatient care in collaboration with doctors, and selecting venous access.
Mission
- You ensure efficient and safe outpatient care for patients, from their hospitalisation to the end of intravenous anti-infective treatment
- You assess hospitalised patients and define with them the most appropriate mode of care, according to clinical and safety criteria
- You plan follow-up and ensure coordination with various healthcare professionals and network partners
- You manage the consultation in collaboration with the unit’s assistant physician and other involved parties
- You support and train patients in self-administration of their treatment, when their situation allows
- You ensure clinical continuity and provide care in accordance with institutional reference frameworks
- You participate in weekend on-call duties to ensure continuity of care.
Profile
- You hold a Bachelor of Science HES-SO in nursing or an equivalent qualification; for foreign diplomas, recognition by the Swiss Red Cross (SRC) is required
- You have several years of experience in adult acute care and possess excellent clinical analysis skills
- You are comfortable making decisions and taking responsibility, especially in situations requiring rapid assessment
- You demonstrate dynamism, initiative, autonomy, and excellent team spirit
- You have excellent interpersonal, organisational, and communication skills and can anticipate issues that may arise at home
- You are familiar with the home care network and appreciate collaboration with its various partners
- You show flexibility in your working hours and can adapt to patient flow
- You are proficient in French, both spoken and written, as well as common IT tools; knowledge of a second national language and/or English is an asset.
Depending on the candidate’s profile, the salary class will be between levels 8 and 9.
