About the job
With more than 13,000 employees representing 160 professions, the Geneva University Hospitals are a reference institution at both national and international levels. To learn more about our institution, take a few minutes to consult our 2025 retrospective by clicking here .
With nearly 1,500 employees, the Department of Rehabilitation and Geriatrics (DRG) specialises in complex care for elderly people as well as patients suffering from multiple pathologies. It consists of three medical divisions: geriatrics, internal medicine and rehabilitation, and palliative medicine. It is spread across 6 sites: Trois-Chêne, Loëx, Bellerive, Beau-Séjour, Joli-Mont and Cluse Roseraie.
Located in the heart of a park on the Belle-Idée estate, the Trois-Chêne Hospital welcomes people whose health condition requires hospitalisation for acute geriatric or rehabilitation care. The hospital has an acute geriatric emergency unit that can accommodate patients aged 75 and over, excluding vital emergencies, a full radiology unit, an intermediate care unit, as well as acute and rehabilitation care units.
As a head of clinic, you aim to obtain your specialist title in general internal medicine or geriatrics and wish to join a team recognised for its clinical expertise, academic commitment, and interdisciplinary approach to elderly care.
In this role, you are responsible for all clinical activities and work in a stimulating university environment at the interface of care, teaching, and research. As part of your training pathway, you benefit from a structured rotation within the different units. You will thus develop your skills in acute geriatrics, particularly in continuous care and geriatric emergencies, acute medicine including infectiology, as well as cognitive and behavioural geriatrics. You will also participate in the psychiatric care of elderly patients and in geriatric liaison, especially with patients hospitalised in orthopaedic surgery and psycho-geriatrics. Depending on your training plan, you may also work in rehabilitation units.
Under the supervision of an attending physician, you autonomously ensure the assessment, diagnosis, and follow-up of often complex clinical situations, while providing your expertise to the medical and nursing teams. You coordinate clinical activities as well as diagnostic and therapeutic strategies for the patients under your responsibility. You apply your clinical sense, analytical mind, and decision-making ability to guarantee quality care based on best medical practices.
Thanks to your organisational skills and ability to manage priorities, you efficiently conduct your clinical activities while responding to numerous demands related to your role (patients, phone calls, correspondence, meetings). You ensure compliance with institutional procedures and actively contribute to the continuous improvement of care quality and safety.
Faced with demanding situations and the diversity of encountered issues, you demonstrate discernment, resilience, and excellent stress management. Your intellectual curiosity and interest in the evolution of medical knowledge allow you to maintain a high level of expertise. Relying on your team spirit, you show solidarity in the face of unforeseen events and heavy workloads.
You collaborate closely with the entire medical and nursing team and ensure clear, smooth, and respectful communication, both with your colleagues and with patients, adapting your language to their understanding.
As a head of clinic, you actively participate in the supervision and training of junior doctors, adopting a mentoring role and sharing your expertise. Additionally, you may participate in clinical research activities and, according to your personal interest, start a quality or clinical research project with specific supervision.
Qualifications
You hold a federal medical diploma or have training deemed equivalent by the Medical Professions Commission of the Federal Office of Public Health (MEBEKO).
You have obtained or are about to obtain the FMH specialist title in general internal medicine. If you already hold an FMH specialist title, you must have a practising licence for the canton of Geneva.
For non-French-speaking candidates, a C1 level in spoken and written French is required.
Experience in acute internal medicine (emergency or intermediate care) or advanced training in geriatrics is an advantage.
You are a person with good communication skills in an interdisciplinary team and with patients, dynamic, flexible, and committed.
