Senior Consultant Paediatric Surgery 80–100 %

The Paediatric Clinic at the Biel Hospital Centre includes the disciplines of paediatrics and paediatric surgery. It operates its own interdisciplinary emergency department, an outpatient clinic, and a total of 26 beds, including 6 in the neonatology area.

The paediatric surgery department has a mandate to provide extended basic paediatric surgical care in inpatient and outpatient settings as well as emergency care. The surgical spectrum includes general paediatric surgery and paediatric traumatology as well as paediatric surgical care for patients of all ages, including newborns.

With the change of chief physician on 1 September 2026, a phase of professional and structural development of paediatric surgery will begin. The goal is to establish a modern, training-oriented paediatric surgery department with a special focus on minimally invasive procedures, structured surgical training, and the development of its own clinical and scientific priorities. At the same time, recognition as an SIWF training centre of category B is being sought.

The medical team consists of four senior consultants, a leading physician, and the chief physician.

Your tasks – our position

• You will independently care for our paediatric surgical patients in close collaboration with our interdisciplinary team
• According to your training and experience, you will increasingly take on independent surgical responsibility and continuously develop your surgical spectrum
• You will conduct an independent paediatric surgical outpatient clinic for referrals and follow-up checks
• You will participate in senior consultant emergency and on-call duties, ensuring continuous care of our patients
• You will be involved in the structured training and education of assistant doctors and students
• You will actively participate in the professional and structural development of paediatric surgery
• The development and assumption of your own clinical, surgical, scientific, or training-related priorities is expressly desired

Your skills – our requirements

• You hold a specialist title in paediatric surgery or are close to obtaining it with appropriate clinical and surgical qualifications
• You have a solid clinical and surgical foundation and wish to specifically develop your paediatric surgical spectrum
• You have a particular interest in minimally invasive paediatric surgery and modern surgical techniques
• You want to take on surgical responsibility while simultaneously developing your own skills in a structured manner
• You enjoy training and education and wish to engage both in your own professional development and increasingly in the training of younger colleagues
• Interest in scientific work, clinical research, and/or academic development is expressly desired
• You enjoy working in a team and value close interdisciplinary collaboration, especially with paediatrics, neonatology, anaesthesia, radiology, and other surgical specialties
• You can communicate orally in German and French and have a secure command of one of the two languages in spoken and written form
