The International School of Lausanne (ISL) is a leading not-for-profit International Baccalaureate World School in French-speaking Switzerland. Approximately 250 staff members welcome around 850 students, aged 3 to 18, from more than 60 nationalities on our campus.
Primary Music Teacher (60%)
Temporary position (cover for maternity leave) from January 2027 to December 2027
We are seeking an enthusiastic and experienced Primary Music Teacher to join our team on a temporary contract. The role involves teaching Music across the Primary School and contributing to the wider musical life of the school through performances and events.
Whilst the position is 60%, the teaching and related responsibilities will likely be spread over four days per week.
Qualifications and Qualities desired:
- A recognized music teaching qualification at graduate or post-graduate level;
- Ideally three years of successful experience in primary school music instruction;
- Knowledge of and a commitment to the educational philosophies of the International Baccalaureate Primary Years Programme;
- Ability to play and teach a variety of instruments, including the piano, would be an advantage;
- Ability to utilise a variety of teaching methods and resources (e.g. Orff, Kodaly) to create a fun and enjoyable learning environment that inspires children to develop a love for music;
- Ability to organise and successfully lead a variety of musical events;
- Strong interpersonal skills with ability to interact positively with students, colleagues and parents;
- Understanding of and sensitivity to cultural variance;
- Adaptability, flexibility, dynamism and a sense of humour;
- Comfortable with high expectations of students, colleagues and a professional parent community;
- Excellent ICT skills and a knowledge of their effective use to support pedagogy;
- Commitment to self-reflection and professional development;
- Full proficiency in English; knowledge of French is an advantage.
