About the job
What to expect
With your positive personality, technological depth, and influence, you not only shape our technology landscape and engineering culture but actively shape the e-commerce of tomorrow. Together with seven dedicated, cross-functional product teams, you work on scalable solutions in a complex distributed system.
- You will have plenty of creative freedom and the chance to sustainably shape our technology landscape, cloud and enterprise architecture, as well as our engineering culture.
- As part of the technology leadership team, you jointly shape the strategic direction and technical vision of the entire engineering organisation.
- You have the authority to significantly influence technological decisions and the further development of our architecture. In this lateral leadership role, you create acceptance primarily through professional strength, personal connection, and trust.
- Yes, we also have enough legacy. This is part of the exciting challenge. You navigate technical trade-offs confidently, make pragmatic decisions, and keep the can-do spirit alive in the team.
- We are a modern product organisation and work closely with product management in agile ways of working such as Scrum or Kanban.
What you bring
You strongly identify with a culture where
- technical full-stack thinking, pair programming, whiteboard sessions, code reviews, automated testing, and CI/CD with multiple productive releases per day are normal. Teams take real end-to-end responsibility in the sense of "You build it, you run it".
- servant leadership, constructive feedback, and the targeted development of people and organisation belong together.
- product works closely with engineering, wants to understand problems in depth, lives true agility, relies on MVPs, short iterations, and fast learning, and consistently makes decisions from a user and business perspective.
We are a good match if you
- have experience in domains such as purchasing, product data, logistics, or ERP, or are generally well versed in the environment of business applications and e-commerce
- like to roll up your sleeves and tackle the toughest problems yourself
- not only know the described engineering culture but live it, coach it, anchor it in the organisation, and elevate our technical excellence to the next level with appreciative communication
- are a great coach and role model for engineers and set technical standards for interfaces, observability, security, and resilience
- approach complex architecture challenges with perseverance and resilience, simplify, and are perceived as a motivating beacon even in demanding situations
- can pragmatically translate design patterns from theory into practice and move confidently in distributed systems and different cloud environments
- bring extensive experience in dealing with legacy and migration strategies, for example with lift-and-shift, strangler, or parallel-run approaches
- understand concepts such as DDD, SCS, Clean Architecture, Event Mesh, SOLID, Feature Flags, or Dependency Injection as tools that you establish structurally in the organisation, and at the same time have a solid understanding of distributed systems and DevOps practices
- consider AI tools like GitHub Copilot or Claude Code as natural tools
- actively shape agentic coding workflows and anchor them in the engineering organisation
- establish a structured architecture review process
- have at least 10 years of experience in modern software development and have already gained very solid experience in domain architecture
- speak German and English
We probably are not a good match if you
- are an ivory tower architect and do not dive deeply into practice together with the teams
- prefer frameworks like SAFe or think in classic project structures and specifications
- have mainly worked in highly regulated environments and have little experience in fast, product-oriented organisations with large distributed systems
- feel more comfortable in role models where infrastructure, backend, frontend, testing, and product thinking are strictly separated
- prefer to receive requirements finished rather than sharpening them together with product management and truly understanding customers
- do not have an insatiable thirst for knowledge to continuously learn new things
- are more frustrated than motivated by imperfect systems. Spoiler: We are not at the goal yet
- strictly separate work and good mood
