Associate Professor of Environmental Ethics and Philosophy of the Environment
Attached to the Institute of Geography and Sustainability ( IGD ) of the FGSE, this full-time position is ideally to be filled from 1 August 2027. Employment contract for an initial duration of six years, renewable.
The successful candidate must hold a doctorate in environmental ethics, philosophy of the environment, or a related field, and be engaged in the field of environmental humanities. They are expected to develop teaching and research activities in ethics, epistemology, phenomenology and/or hermeneutics, as well as on the theoretical and methodological foundations of environmental humanities. Their research should contribute to analysing the ethical and philosophical dimensions of the ecological crisis, in dialogue with environmental sciences, and focus on different conceptions of nature, relationships between humans and non-humans, as well as issues of environmental justice and politics in the Anthropocene era. Particular attention will be given to work that questions the foundations of contemporary models of thought and action and contributes to current debates in political ecology and post-growth trajectories.
The recruited person will actively participate in the research of the Institute of Geography and Sustainability and the Faculty, as well as in the teaching of the Bachelor in Geosciences and Environment and the Master in Foundations and Practices of Sustainability. They will also supervise Bachelor, Master, and doctoral students. They must demonstrate the ability to teach in French from the start of their appointment or at the latest within two years following their recruitment.
