Job Description
As Cantonal Inspector of Food Safety and Consumer Protection, you hold a key position within the Consumer Office (OFCO), attached to the Department of Agriculture, Sustainability, Climate and Digital Affairs. As a field actor and close manager, you coordinate and support the team of inspectors in carrying out official controls, inspections and monitoring of risks related to food safety and consumer protection. In close collaboration with the Cantonal Chemist and the Deputy Cantonal Chemist, you contribute to the implementation of the office's strategic directions and the development of services. You ensure a consistent, harmonised and rigorous application of control practices, placing consumer safety at the heart of every action. A dynamic, unifying and proactive person, you support the teams in daily challenges and actively contribute to the continuous improvement of the service.
Responsibilities
- Lead, manage and motivate the corps of food and consumer goods inspectors and the staff of the Cantonal Office of Weights and Measures (BCPM)
- Coordinate and ensure the technical and scientific activities of consumer protection of the food and consumer goods inspectorate throughout the cantonal territory
- Anticipate and organise the continuing education of the staff of the corps of food and consumer goods inspectors and the staff of the Cantonal Office of Weights and Measures (BCPM)
- Represent the Food and Consumer Goods Inspectorate and manage external relations and information

Qualifications
- Master's degree in food sciences or a field related to food safety or an equivalent qualification
- Federal diploma in official food control (DCAl) and Federal diploma in management of official food control (DDCAl) - possibility to complete these trainings during the first two years of employment
- Field experience and in-depth knowledge in the field of food safety of at least 5 years
- Recognised training and/or experience in management
- Sense of responsibility and public service ethics
- Global vision and sense of perspective
- Organisation and time management
- Conflict management
- Leadership
- Driving licence and availability of private vehicle for professional travel
- Occasional inspections at night, early morning as well as on Saturdays and Sundays
WHO ARE WE?
In this capacity, it ensures the safety of foodstuffs and consumer goods to guarantee that they do not pose a health risk. It also ensures the fairness of commercial transactions by promoting transparent practices compliant with the legal framework. Furthermore, it oversees the quality of distributed water and its availability in sufficient quantity.
These missions are carried out in a coordinated and complementary manner by three groups: the Inspectorate, the laboratories and the Cantonal Office of Weights and Measures. They also rely on essential transversal functions such as administration, legal affairs and quality assurance, which contribute to the smooth operation and overall coherence of the Office.
