The University Centre for Palliative Care (UZP) is an interdisciplinary cross-sectional specialty at Inselspital and a central university structure for specialised palliative care, clinical research and academic teaching. The centre offers comprehensive medical, nursing and psychosocial care for patients with complex, advanced or incurable diseases. In addition to inpatient care, the services include specialised outpatient services as well as a consultation service within the university hospital. A particular focus is on interprofessional care, the early integration of palliative medicine expertise in complex disease courses, and the further development of evidence-based, patient-centred care models.
Assistant Professorship with Tenure Track (open rank) or Associate Professorship for Palliative Medicine combined with the position of Chief Physician of the UZP
from 01.08.2027 or by arrangement.
Your Profile We are seeking an internationally recognised individual with proven clinical expertise in palliative medicine as well as experience in leading clinical structures and interprofessional teams. The future postholder should strategically further develop the University Centre for Palliative Care, strengthen the integration of palliative medicine competencies into various clinical disciplines, and actively shape the regional and supraregional networking of palliative care. An independent, internationally visible scientific profile with regular publication activity and successful acquisition of competitive third-party funding is expected. The future postholder should further expand research in the field of palliative medicine, especially in health services research and interdisciplinary research collaborations, and contribute to the national and international positioning of the Bern location. Strong commitment to student teaching as well as to the training, continuing education and professional development of healthcare professionals is required. This includes the further development of palliative medicine teaching content in medical studies as well as the promotion of interprofessional training formats and active support of young scientists. A habilitation or an equivalent academic qualification as well as a specialist title with SIWF/FMH focus in palliative medicine are prerequisites. Additional qualifications, for example in management or organisational development, are advantageous. As an integrative and trust-building personality, you possess strong communication and team-building skills. You promote interprofessional collaboration, integrate different perspectives, and actively engage in cooperation with regional and national partner institutions. Furthermore, you are committed to an open, respectful working environment and to the promotion of equality and diversity.
