The Department of Surgery provides 24/7 care for patients, both elective and emergency cases requiring surgical intervention. It represents a centre of excellence, not only Swiss but also European, in several fields and in many of its surgical specialties.

Within this department, the unit of physical medicine and orthopaedic rehabilitation (UMPRO) is attached to the Orthopaedic Surgery and Musculoskeletal Traumatology Service . This is the largest centre of its kind in Switzerland. It offers cutting-edge care covering all areas of reconstructive orthopaedic surgery and adult traumatology, including complex and highly specialised situations. The service performs more than 6,500 surgical interventions each year and provides approximately 45,000 consultations. It relies on a multidisciplinary approach, high-level infrastructure, and strong involvement in university teaching and clinical research.

This position is newly created and is part of the ALTER deployment aimed at ensuring compliance of work organisation with the Labour Law (LTr).

As Head of Clinic holding the specialist title in Physical Medicine and Rehabilitation, you ensure specialised outpatient care for patients presenting musculoskeletal pathologies, complex traumatic sequelae, and functional limitations requiring rehabilitation expertise. You contribute to the development of clinical activities of the physical medicine and orthopaedic rehabilitation unit (UMPRO) in close collaboration with the orthopaedic surgery, traumatology teams, and various specialists involved in the care pathway.

In this role, you are involved in the outpatient follow-up of polytraumatised patients, for whom you perform thorough functional assessments, define rehabilitation goals, and coordinate the therapeutic interventions necessary to optimise their functional recovery and autonomy. You participate in managing complex situations requiring an interdisciplinary approach.

As part of your activity, you perform diagnostic and therapeutic procedures specific to the discipline, including infiltrations and injections in the musculoskeletal field. You also contribute to the continuous improvement of clinical practices and the development of the unit’s services.

You demonstrate rigour, clinical acumen, and strong analytical skills in managing sometimes complex situations, including short-term complication management. Thanks to your organisational skills and ability to prioritise, you efficiently manage your clinical activities while responding to multiple demands (patients, phone calls, correspondence, meetings).

You work in a demanding environment at the interface of care, teaching, and research. In this capacity, you collaborate closely with the entire medical and nursing team and ensure clear, fluid, and respectful communication with both colleagues and patients, adapting your discourse to their understanding.

Relying on your team spirit, you show solidarity in the face of unforeseen events and high workloads. As Head of Clinic, you actively participate in supervising and training junior doctors, adopting a mentoring role and sharing your expertise. You also take part in the on-call service of the department.

You hold a federal medical diploma or have training deemed equivalent by the Medical Professions Commission of the Federal Office of Public Health (MEBEKO).

You hold an FMH title in physical medicine and rehabilitation or an equivalent title recognised by MEBEKO and possess the cantonal practice licence or are able to obtain it before starting your position from the Cantonal Medical Officer of Geneva.

You have proven experience in physical medicine and rehabilitation allowing you to be autonomous in your activities. You are comfortable with technical procedures, notably performing injections. Your previous experience is ideally gained in a university environment with a high volume of activity.

For non-French speakers, a C1 level in spoken and written French is required.

You have excellent communication skills within a multidisciplinary team and with patients, are dynamic, flexible, committed, and discreet. Moreover, you have demonstrated strong adaptability.

You can work day shifts as well as night and weekend shifts.
