ETH Zurich is launching a pioneering research project with a direct connection to construction practice. The HIL building on the Hönggerberg campus will be transformed into a Living Lab. The building, which requires renovation, will be rebuilt and extended. Professorships from the Departments of Architecture (D-ARCH) and Civil, Environmental and Geomatic Engineering (D-BAUG) will research and plan the renovation of the HIL building in the spirit of circular construction over the coming years. The aim is to further develop sustainable design and construction in existing buildings and to demonstrate this exemplarily in a real planning and construction project.

We are looking for committed junior architects to strengthen our planning team and support the development and implementation of complex sub-projects. In this position, you will have the unique opportunity to work directly at the interface of pioneering academic research and real Swiss construction practice across all SIA phases.

Job Description

In this project-related role, you will primarily take on the following tasks and responsibilities:

• Planning Support: Collaboration in the design, detailed and execution planning of various sub-projects and structural interventions in the HIL building.
• Prototype Development: Support of sub-project leaders in the constructive elaboration, detailing and testing of novel, circular building components.
• Project Documentation: Careful documentation of planning and construction processes as well as visual and content preparation of interim results for project committees.
• 3D Modelling: Creation, further development and maintenance of precise 3D models for geometric and constructive verification within the team.
• The position is initially limited to a maximum of five years, starting with a one-year contract with options for extension.

Profile

To ideally meet the requirements of this demanding position, you bring the following profile:

• Education: Successfully completed university degree in architecture (ETH, FH or comparable university degree).
• Professional Experience: Practical professional experience in a Swiss architectural office (e.g. through internships or first permanent employment after studies) is desirable.
• CAD Skills: Confident and practical experience with 3D CAD programmes, preferably Rhino and VisualARQ; knowledge of computer-aided design preferably using Grasshopper / Python as well as BIM workflows is a plus.
• Working Method: Quick comprehension, structured, independent and precise working style as well as strong team skills in an interdisciplinary environment.
• Interest: High motivation and enthusiasm for sustainability, circular construction, reuse of building components and material-saving constructions.
• Languages: Very good German (min. B2/C1 for coordination within the team) and good English skills, both spoken and written.
