What you can contribute
- Assume overall strategic responsibility for the Data Directorate Unit, including data management, the use of data science and AI, as well as the Swiss MicroDataCenter (SMDC)
- Ensure the implementation of the FSO's data strategy and, as the Swiss Data Steward, actively contribute to the development of national data policy
- Take overall responsibility for the strategic development of core data infrastructures (registers, metadata platforms, data access services)
- Strategically steer the use of data science and artificial intelligence to advance statistical production
- Represent and advocate the FSO's position within national and international bodies concerning data standards, data spaces, and secondary use
- Contribute to defining strategic direction and ensuring the FSO's development as a member of the executive board
What makes you unique
- University degree in natural or social sciences (preferably a doctorate), complemented by continuing education in data science, economics, or administrative sciences
- Extensive experience in senior management and proven experience in managing large-scale complex transformation projects
- Proven expertise in data policy, data governance, and digitalisation of administration, with in-depth knowledge of federal administration structures and processes
- Political acumen and experience representing within national and international bodies, as well as stakeholder management at the interface between administration, politics, and research
- Active knowledge of two official languages and passive knowledge of the third, excellent command of English (at least C1)

As Head of the "Data" Directorate Unit and Deputy Director of the FSO, you will play a key role at the intersection of data, technology, and public administration. You will be responsible for the strategic development of national data infrastructures and position the FSO as a central player in Switzerland's public data ecosystem. As a member of the executive board, you will actively contribute to shaping federal data policy with strategic vision and entrepreneurial spirit. The Data Directorate Unit comprises more than 140 qualified employees, including 4 direct reports.

The Federal Statistical Office (FSO) is the competence centre for public statistics and the main actor in the Swiss data ecosystem. It produces statistical information, works towards data harmonisation through national data management, and develops processes derived from data science to advance data interpretation. The FSO thus contributes to shaping public opinion and makes an important contribution to modern democratic governance.
