The Clinic for Forensics (UPKF), as part of UPK Basel, is a supraregional university centre covering the broad spectrum of forensic psychiatry and psychology in diagnostics, expert assessments, therapy, research and teaching. The UPKF includes adult and youth forensic psychiatry with full care from consultation services in institutions and prisons to inpatient services and outpatient treatment as well as forensic psychology.
To fulfil these tasks, we work in an interprofessional team. Our work is guided by the principles of recovery orientation and we use dialectical behavioural approaches.

- Promoting the involvement of relatives in treatment
- Leading groups in DBT, psychoeducation, social skills group (GSK), relaxation and activity

- Safety through relationship is our guiding principle. We stand for an individual and patient-centred treatment approach, which for us also includes recovery-oriented nursing. This attitude enables us to take creative new paths despite the legal framework
- Language is our working tool. Whether in key worker work, core team work, work with relatives or everyday life – we maintain a caring, empathetic and open communication
- The application of the nursing process (NANDA), resource and risk assessment tools (SAPROF, Bröset, Basel criteria catalogue, etc.) allows us to recognise the potential of our patients to make the best use of resources and support them on their recovery journey
