For the ongoing qualitative-ethnographic research project "Urban Development: Participation 'from below' and 'from above'" funded by the Swiss National Science Foundation (SNSF), we are seeking at the Institute for Sociocultural Development from 15 August 2026 or by arrangement you as

Description
The fundamental research project aims to explore practices and perspectives of participants in the context of urban development from a daily life and actor-centred viewpoint. The overarching project goals are (a) to analyse the empirical range of practices and perspectives of participating persons, (b) to be able to make differentiated statements about the relationships between different forms of participation, and thereby (c) to work out specific participation patterns in urban development. These goals are pursued using a qualitative-ethnographic research design in the style of Grounded Theory.
- Planning and organisation at all stages of the research project
- Independent literature research, data collection, analysis, and publication up to dissemination of results
- Responsibility and collaboration in the preparation and execution of the international final conference.
- Responsibility and collaboration in the preparation and execution of the dissemination workshop with practitioners
- Giving presentations and participating in conferences and workshops, including internationally
Requirements
- Master’s degree in Educational Science, Social Work, other Social Sciences, Urban Planning, or a comparable field
- Familiarity with the Swiss context of planning and urban development
- Very good knowledge and experience in qualitative social research; experience with ethnographic approaches and Grounded Theory is an advantage
- Research project experience in the subject area (during doctoral studies or as a scientific assistant) is a great advantage
- Experience in publishing and presenting is desirable
- Dialect skills as well as good English skills in spoken and written form are advantageous
- Resilient, thematically interested, open and communicative personality
- Interest and ability in dealing with different groups of people
- Ability to work in a team, flexibility and independence
