Animal Welfare Officer (m/f/d)
The Animal Welfare & 3R Unit is embedded within the remit of the Vice President for Research and deals with topics related to animal welfare, training and further education, 3R, and communication. It reviews and assesses research projects involving animal experiments, thereby contributing to the promotion of ethical research and the strengthening of exemplary and professional treatment of animals.
For a fixed-term maternity cover, we are looking for an initiative and reliable person from 1 January 2027. The position is limited until the end of August 2027. There may be the possibility of a permanent position immediately afterwards.
Job Description
- In a team with three other animal welfare officers, as well as with the additional staff of the unit, you work in the field of animal experimental research, addressing both scientific and ethical aspects
- You support researchers as well as the animal husbandry facilities of ETH Zurich and their collaboration partners in the approval process for animal experiment and animal husbandry licences
- Furthermore, you conduct internal controls for quality assurance of experiments and husbandry, actively promote the 3Rs, and support transparent communication in the area of animal experiments
Profile
- Thanks to a completed doctorate or a veterinary medicine degree with research experience in a biomedical field, you are familiar with research first-hand
- You possess the required training according to Art. 129b Animal Welfare Ordinance
- Your English skills enable you to communicate fluently both orally and in writing in our international environment
- Good German language skills, both spoken and written, support you in dealing with authorities and ETH administration
- A diplomatic personality is needed to weigh various viewpoints in daily work
- You are characterised by a structured, careful, and solution-oriented way of working
- You bring an interest in interdisciplinary collaboration as well as in the further development of animal welfare and the 3Rs
