About the job
With more than 13,000 employees representing 160 professions, the Geneva University Hospitals are a reference institution at both national and international levels. To learn more about our institution, take a few minutes to consult our 2025 retrospective by clicking here .
With nearly 1,200 employees, the Acute Medicine Department (DMA) includes the anaesthesiology, clinical pharmacology and toxicology, intensive care, and emergency services. It fulfils a fourfold mission through its services, which provide their expertise in frequent interaction with all Geneva University Hospitals, thanks to a transversal platform, aiming to ensure the best possible patient care.
The Emergency Service is a transversal service tasked with welcoming patients 24/7 regardless of the nature of their health problem, ensuring rapid and effective care to direct them to the most appropriate structure. The Emergency Service also provides urgent medical assistance at the cantonal level, coordinates and manages major events, while serving as a reference service for the canton’s structures.
To guarantee response in the event of a major incident or exceptional situation, the Prehospital and Resuscitation Emergency Unit (UPHR) is recruiting chief paramedics (ACS) to ensure the presence of a driving duo with the chief emergency physician (MCS) in case of a particular event.
You will join the ORCA division of the UPHR and actively collaborate with doctors and paramedic staff working in this division to ensure the cantonal response in the event of a major incident or exceptional situation.
You will participate in the initial and ongoing training of health responders in major incidents and contribute to the development of these trainings.
You will provide continuous on-call service. Your hours are flexible and you may be required to work weekends, nights, or public holidays, both unexpectedly in the field and in command posts in a scheduled manner.
You contribute to the operation of exceptional resources and actively help ensure their availability and functionality.

You hold a federal ES diploma as a paramedic or an equivalent recognised qualification.
A minimum of 5 years’ full-time equivalent post-ES diploma experience in paramedic care in the field in Switzerland is required.
Current paramedic activity in the canton of Geneva of at least 50% is required.
You hold a current federal chief paramedic diploma (ACS) or are in the process of obtaining it within the year following employment.
An MIMMS (Major Incident Medical Management and Support) certificate is an asset.
