Presentation

Senior Lecturer in environmental ethics and environmental philosophy

The successful candidate will be appointed as “Maître d’Enseignement et de Recherche” at the Institute of Geography and Sustainability ( IGD ) on a full-time basis, with a planned start date of 1 August 2027.
Employment for an initial term of six years, subject to renewal.

We are seeking a candidate with a PhD in environmental ethics, environmental philosophy, or a related field, who is actively engaged with environmental humanities. The candidate is expected to develop teaching and research activities in ethics, epistemology, phenomenology, and/or hermeneutics, as well as in the theoretical and methodological foundations of environmental humanities. The successful candidate will contribute through their research to the analysis of the ethical and philosophical dimensions of the ecological crisis, in dialogue with the environmental sciences. Their work should address diverse understandings of nature, human–nonhuman relationships, and questions of environmental justice and politics in the Anthropocene. Particular consideration will be given to candidates whose research critically examines the assumptions underpinning contemporary models of thought and action and contributes to current debates in political ecology and post-growth transitions.

The successful candidate will actively participate in the research activities of the Institute of Geography and Sustainability and of the faculty, contribute to teaching in the Bachelor of Geosciences and Environment and the master’s program in Sustainability at FGSE, and supervise bachelor, master and doctoral students. The successful candidate must demonstrate the ability to teach fluently in French either upon appointment or, at the latest, within two years of being hired.
