Senior Manager Public Relations & Media

Job description:

What will you do

Reporting to the Global Director, Public Relations & Media, the Senior Manager, Public Relations & Media, EMEALA will form a key part of the global Public Relations & Media team and will play a pivotal role in helping to grow the EMEALA region’s brand presence and reputation to drive growth. The role will work cross-functionally with country communications/marketing teams to source key stories that advance the brand. The role will work with key media stakeholders in the industry to proactively pitch and get placement for these stories and will maintain strong relationships with these stakeholders externally for favourable placement. Initial focus countries will be UK, Germany, Spain, France and Middle East with the opportunity to expand this remit as the company and resources permit

How will you do it

  • Develop the EMEALA PR and Media strategy and execution plan aligned to global and EMEALA Marketing and Business Strategy, supporting the delivery of our business and enterprise objectives
  • Develop a steady flow of news and stories to showcase the company’s thought leadership and meet share of voice targets
  • Deliver PR support for key JCI events and news stories in the region
  • Proactively pitch and effectively support placement of JCI thought leadership stories and messages
  • Closely align with the Business and Marketing leadership to set and deliver on PR goals
  • Maintain a keen understanding of industry trends affecting Johnson Controls clients and make appropriate recommendations regarding PR opportunities surrounding them
  • Research and identify new media and PR opportunities to raise the profile of the Johnson Controls brand and support brand transformations
  • Analyse data and trends to support the placement of exciting and engaging thought leadership stories
  • Support and help prepare key stakeholders for media and speaking opportunities
  • Develop press releases and opinion pieces to place in relevant tier 1 and trade media and manage the effective review, sign-offs and distribution and publication of press releases
  • Help research and evaluate opportunities for partnerships, sponsorships and industry awards

Required profile:

What we look for


  • Minimum ten years' experience in a PR agency or in-house PR role with connections to key EMEALA and/or global media outlets
  • Experience in devising and implementing communications and media strategies in fast-paced environments using a mix of internal and external resources
  • Excellent English speaker with the ability to speak Spanish and/or German would be a bonus
  • Solid proven experience in media relations, with the ability to pitch succinctly and effectively both in person, over the phone and in writing.
  • Demonstrable track record of successful delivery measured against brand/reputation awareness and press coverage.
  • Excellent writing, editing, organisation and project management skills.
  • Ability to develop stories from baseline information, to write engaging stories
  • Understanding in the importance social media plays in the outreach
  • Proven ability to measure the impact of activity and demonstrate a KPI-focused approach
  • Strong interpersonal skills; able to communicate confidently, professionally and proactively with a broad range of people
  • Ability to meet deadlines and manage multiple projects in a fast paced and demanding environment
  • A skilled approach to media pitching, proactively using a range of techniques to deliver results


  • Crisis comms experience
  • Experience with digital PR tools, including PRNewswire, PA Media Point, PR Max, etc
