The Position

A healthier future. It’s what drives us to innovate. To continuously advance science and ensure everyone has access to the healthcare they need today and for generations to come. Creating a world where we all have more time with the people we love. That’s what makes us Roche.

In Roche’s Pharmaceutical Research and Early Development organization (pRED) , we make transformative medicines for patients to tackle some of the world’s toughest unmet healthcare needs. At pRED, we are united by our mission to transform science into medicine. Together, we create a culture defined by curiosity, responsibility and humility, where our talented people are empowered and inspired to bring forward extraordinary life-changing innovation at speed.

This position is located in Lead Discovery, a department within Small Molecule Research (SMR) which is part of the Therapeutic Modalities function, where the discovery of chemical starting points for further optimization in medicinal chemistry is our primary focus.

The Opportunity

As a research team, we continuously drive for excellence in our scientific delivery by relying on leading technology and a strong scientific community. Here, we are offering an outstanding opportunity for a new team member with a passion for lab automation and data workflows to enhance our internal capabilities in automated parallelized profiling assays and focused screening campaigns.

  • With science at your heart, you impact the discovery of new chemical starting points by defining, optimising and troubleshooting automated assay setups and workflows for the screening and profiling of compounds in a lab-based role to support the HTS and profiling team delivery.

  • As a change agent, you are a driver for our scientific community to develop future automation solutions focusing on user acceptance. You bring automated workflows to the next level by clear communication, active knowledge sharing and SOPs, and by training colleagues with different backgrounds.

  • You have a passion for smooth and innovative data workflows and lab orchestration. As a business process and solution owner for new data workflows, you are the key connector between the research units in lead discovery and the data & analytics teams.

  • As an individual contributor, you are a pivotal expert within our multidisciplinary teams. You work closely with internal/external hardware and software development teams to ensure the setup and optimization of automation systems and the seamless integration into lead discovery workflows.

  • Your interest in high-content assays and imaging workflows becomes a driver in the cross-functional matrix team.

  • You stay up-to-date with the latest technology and trends in life science automation and implementation to ensure that our automation ecosystem and the scientific community are always one step ahead.

Who you are

  • We are looking for a new team member with a strong scientific profile with 5+ years in the pharmaceutical or biotech industry or equivalent experience in High Throughput Screening or other automated life science lab infrastructures.

  • You comfortably set up and optimize assay and translate this into automated workflows with existing schedulers e.g. HighRes CellarioTM and have a strong vision for lab orchestration which you drive forward in the role as a business process owner.

  • You thrive in a dynamic, inclusive environment which gives you full accountability for your own contributions and development.

  • You have strong oral and written communication skills and are proficient in preparing and running effective meetings.

The scientific title of this position might be adjusted depending on the seniority and experience of the final candidate.
