Research assistant / doctoral candidate in Conversational AI and Large Language Models (m/f/d)

Our research at the Chair of Data Science and Natural Language Processing at the Institute of Computer Science (ICS-HSG) focuses on the areas of large language models (LLM) and quantitative data science. We collaborate with the Institute for Educational Management and Educational Technologies (IBB), as well as the EdTech Startup Brian on questions at the interface of education and technology.

Research assistant / doctoral candidate in Conversational AI and Large Language Models (m/f/d)

Your tasks

  • Participating in research within the field of Artificial Intelligence in Education (AIED).
  • Conducting research and implementing Large Language Models for the development of AI- driven chatbots.
  • Advancing the capabilities of a Conversational AI platform.
  • Integrating Retrieval Augmented Generation (RAG) technology and vector database solutions.
  • Engaging in collaborative efforts within an interdisciplinary research team, led by Prof. Dr. Sabine Seufert at the Institute for Educational Management and Educational Technologies, alongside our industry partner, the EdTech startup "Brian." Brian specializes in AI-powered software designed to enhance personalized and collaborative learning experiences for both students and educators, enriched with learning analytics features (https://brian.study/).
  • This role offers the unique opportunity to pursue a doctoral degree in this cutting-edge area of study.

Your profile

  • Possess a Master's degree in Computer Science, Computational Linguistics, Data Science, or a related field, demonstrating a solid foundation in technical knowledge
  • Proficient in Python programming, showcasing strong coding skills and the ability to solve complex problems efficiently
  • Experience in one or more of the following areas is highly desirable:
    • Development and implementation of Chatbots
    • Building and working with Large Language Models
    • Creating solutions using Conversational AI technologies
  • Willingness to learn and work with development stacks that include Clojure, as well as front-end technologies like Dart.
  • Exhibits a work ethic that is diligent, responsible, structured, goal-oriented, and independent
  • Good communication abilities and interpersonal skills.
  • Proficiency in English.
