Combined Specialty Internship/ Doctoral (Dr.med.vet.) position in Small Animals Veterinary Anaesthesia and Analgesia 100%

The Anaesthesia and Pain Therapy Section of the Department of Clinical Veterinary Science, Vetsuisse Faculty, University of Bern, Switzerland, invites applications for a combined 2 years Small Animals Anaesthesia Internship / Doctoral (Dr.med.vet.) position starting September 2025/Januar 2026.
The Department offers first-class full service in small and large animal surgery and medicine and provides primary and referral patient care for most domestic species. The veterinary teaching hospitals (small animal, equine and farm animal) are equipped with state-of-the-art facilities and are top-level veterinary education centers.

The successful candidate will work under the supervision of anaesthesia and analgesia specialists (6 ECVAA, 1 ACVAA diplomates) to provide anaesthesia and analgesia mainly in the Small Animal Hospital of the Department. In addition, the candidate will work on a doctoral research project focusing on veterinary anaesthesia and analgesia with the goal to obtain the Dr.med.vet. title from the University of Bern. Participation to the out-of-hours emergency anaesthesia service is foreseen.

The applicant should be a recently graduated veterinarian, with enthusiasm for the specialty, good communication skills, willing to learn and fluent in English or German and French.
