What works well?

A view makes up for everything. Unfortunately, it doesn't cure anything. I don't know what else to say.

What could be improved?

Home Salem and its Eben-Hézer Foundation excel at a well-honed art: the art of the gap between rhetoric and reality. The human values and warmth displayed for all to see stand in stark contrast to a top-down management style that is averse to dialogue and impervious to any form of questioning. As for the staff and trainees, they experience an atmosphere on a daily basis that one might politely describe as toxic. The director of nursing, for her part, seems to have adopted a unique management style: listening to the last person who spoke, without perspective or discernment, and systematically endorsing an all-powerful nursing assistant who holds the reins of the institution. A small, privileged circle thus thrives quietly, while the residents are pushed to the sidelines. The Montessori approach? It looks good on paper, reassuring in brochures, and is virtually absent from actual clinical care. A nice marketing spin, with little to do with daily practice. The result is unsurprising: chronic turnover, with professionals who eventually resign or get fired when they dare to try to improve things. The question therefore arises: will the foundation continue to polish its employer image while candidates dry up? The younger generation can no longer be bought off with a decent salary. They want meaning, consistency, and values that are lived out—not just read about. As long as this gap persists, recruitment will remain a chronic problem, entirely self-inflicted.
