La Fondation Eben-Hézer accompagne des personnes vivant avec un handicap ou en perte d’autonomie.
Créée en 1899 par Sœur Julie Hofmann, la Fondation regroupe aujourd’hui plusieurs établissements :
- Eben-Hézer Lausanne et la Cité du Genévrier (Saint-Légier) accueillent plus de 500 jeunes adultes et adultes en situation de handicap.
- Les établissements médico-sociaux du Pôle Grand-Âge (Home Salem) et périmètre (Beau-Site) hébergent plus de 300 personnes âgées, pour de longs et courts séjours, ainsi qu’en accueil temporaire.
La Fondation emploie près de 1300 collaborateurs.
Grâce au soutien de ses donateurs et aux subventions publiques, les différentes institutions de la Fondation Eben-Hézer poursuivent la même mission : offrir à leurs résidents des soins appropriés, un cadre de vie agréable et développer leur potentiel.

Very disappointed with this experience
What works well?
The residents are really kind and friendly. The setting is beautiful, with a view of the lake. The food is also very good, and the meals are well prepared.
What could be improved?
I’m a nursing assistant, and at first I really thought this was a good place to work. But as time went on, I quickly changed my mind. A lot of people don’t stay long, and it’s easy to see why. There isn’t enough listening, there’s little recognition, and there’s a lot of turnover in the teams. A lot is demanded of us, but employees end up leaving. It’s a shame because the facility and the residents deserve better.

My experience at this nursing home was truly very disappointing. There’s a genuinely toxic atmosphere in the care department, schedules that aren’t always easy to manage, and, above all, a work environment that really doesn’t make you want to stay long. It’s a shame because the staff in the housekeeping department are really very kind, as are the residents—I really enjoyed working with them, and they deserve better. I won’t say any more here because I don’t want to face retaliation or get into trouble, but personally, I decided not to continue and to prioritize my own well-being. No one should have to go to work with a knot in their stomach in an environment like that. I actually find it quite shocking, especially when it comes from people who work in healthcare and are supposed to take care of others. The promises made during the hiring process and the fine words at the beginning are, unfortunately, quite far from reality once you’re on the job. There’s a lot of talk, but in reality, it’s a different story. As for me, I chose to leave; my health and well-being come before a job.

At first, my experience at this nursing home seemed to be going quite well. I received a very warm welcome, the setting was beautiful, and my first impression was positive. I’d also like to highlight the professionalism and friendliness of the front desk and housekeeping staff. Unfortunately, my experience with the care provided was quite different. Hired as a nurse, I was very quickly offered the opportunity to take on more responsibilities, managing two floors as a head nurse. However, I discovered a work environment there that I found particularly challenging. In particular, I had to deal with a colleague working as a certified nursing assistant whose behavior struck me as very authoritarian; I felt she treated colleagues differently, which contributed to creating tension within the team. I had brought these difficulties to the attention of the head nurse, but unfortunately, I saw no improvement. My interactions with the nursing administration were also very disappointing. I personally felt they had a distant and haughty attitude, quite different from what I expected from leadership that fosters dialogue and a peaceful work environment. I ultimately decided to end my probationary period. It was impossible for me to envision a professional future in that environment, despite the appeal of the position and the responsibilities that had been offered to me. This is, of course, an account of my personal experience, but it left me with the impression of a facility that was pleasant in terms of its setting and some of its staff—an impression unfortunately marred by a work environment that I found deeply unhealthy within the healthcare sector.
