Caring for a collection of more than 76,000 objects and nearly 300,000 documents (books, photographic media, sound and music recordings) covering all continents, the Ethnography Museum of Geneva (MEG) is a key venue in the Geneva cultural scene. Its exhibition programme and its multidisciplinary cultural and scientific programming promote knowledge, address contemporary societal and environmental issues, and encourage rethinking the relationship with living beings. Library Manager at 90%
Your mission and responsibilities
- Ensure the general operation of the library autonomously, and in agreement with the Head of the Public Unit, on administrative, financial, and human resources matters.
- Propose and implement projects that contribute to the development of the library and the MEG.
- Coordinate and guarantee the implementation of the collection policy (acquisitions, classification, restoration, disposal).
- Develop and participate in training, mediation, and internal and external communication actions of the library: internet, social networks, posters, etc.
Your profile
- Hold a Bachelor’s degree in information sciences, or an equivalent qualification. Continuing education in management is an asset.
- Have at least 5 years of professional experience in a similar position, including team management experience.
- Master the Alma Integrated Library System and the cataloguing rules in force within the SLSP network, and be comfortable with common IT tools.
- Have a strong interest in social sciences (ethnography, anthropology, political science, and development studies) and be able to thematise societal issues.
- Have perfect command of French, good knowledge of English both spoken and written, and mastery of a third language is an asset.
- Be proactive in diversifying the library’s audiences and implementing a cultural and scientific mediation programme.
- Be constructive and open-minded to collaborate effectively with multidisciplinary teams and numerous partners, even in stressful situations.
- Know how to motivate a team through listening and dialogue to establish a climate of trust and create a positive and stimulating work environment.
- Be willing to work occasionally at weekends.
