Role:

Technology here does not end with classic IT support. In an environment where research, data, and digital methods play a central role, you can actively help shape how IT supports everyday scientific work. Besides managing the infrastructure, you will therefore have a position with development potential: more automation, smarter support processes, and new approaches with cloud and AI technologies.

Responsibilities:

Systems & Infrastructure

• You ensure that the local IT infrastructure with Windows, macOS, and Linux is reliably available.

• You manage servers, workstation systems as well as laboratory and device PCs and take on tasks in 1st and 2nd level support.

• You ensure functioning backup and data protection concepts and monitor their implementation.

Users & Research

• You support employees, researchers, and students with technical problems and questions regarding the applications used.

• You advise users on topics related to IT security and the safe use of IT resources.

• You work directly with research groups and engage with their individual technical requirements.

• You support scientific IT topics, for example concerning cloud infrastructures, AI-supported workflows, or computer-aided chemistry.

Development & Automation

• You contribute ideas on how recurring support tasks can be made more efficient through automation.

• You participate in smaller IT projects and coordinate their implementation together with central IT.

• You help further develop the connection between classic IT infrastructure and the digital requirements of modern research.

Qualifications:

• You have training as an IT specialist EFZ, ideally with a focus on platform development, or a comparable qualification.

• You preferably hold a university of applied sciences degree in computer science or equivalent further education.

• Ideally, you bring several years of experience in system administration or system engineering.

• You are confident with Microsoft Windows, macOS, and Linux and can manage both client and server systems.

• You enjoy delving into new technical issues and the specific needs of research groups.

• You like working with people and bring a strong service and customer orientation.

• You approach problems analytically and work independently, structured, and solution-oriented.

• You communicate clearly, take responsibility, and feel comfortable in interdisciplinary teams.

• You have very good English skills at least at C1 level.

• Ideally, you have knowledge of German.

• You are interested in cloud, automation, and AI and enjoy discovering their practical benefits for IT and research.
