About the job
We are ERNI. Since 1994, we have been advising and supporting companies in innovation and technology with the aim of increasing our clients' business performance and thus paving the way into the digital future.
Our key to success: People like you and our mindset shaped by Swiss values. We want our clients to be more effective and innovative than anyone else. Together we achieve these high goals – in partnership, as a real team and with genuine values.
We design processes to be as simple and smart as possible – with around 800 employees at 18 locations in 8 countries and maybe soon with you too!
As a Data Engineer, you develop the data foundations we need for AI, analytics and automated business processes. You ensure that data is available, reliable, secure, traceable and usable for specific applications.
You design and implement data ingestion, transformation, integration and provisioning for structured and unstructured data. In doing so, you work with databases, APIs, documents, event streams, cloud storage, data warehouses, lakehouses and modern data platforms.
Your work creates the basis for machine learning and generative AI. Therefore, you are also familiar with AI/ML techniques, LLMs, embeddings, vector search and retrieval-augmented generation and can sensibly prepare data for training, evaluation, retrieval and AI-supported applications.
You are not only an implementation expert but also a discussion partner for our clients. In exploratory workshops, you help technical decision-makers, business managers and stakeholders to identify relevant data use cases, assess their benefits and define actionable next steps.
As part of our Data & AI team, you work closely with AI/ML engineers, software engineers, architects and consultants. You support technical pre-sales activities, lead or assist exploratory client workshops and contribute to further developing our Data & AI service portfolio.
What to expect:
You design and implement robust data ingestion, transformation and provisioning pipelines for AI, analytics and automated business processes.
You integrate structured and unstructured data from databases, APIs, documents, enterprise applications, event streams and other relevant sources.
You develop data products, datasets, feature pipelines and retrieval-capable knowledge bases for machine learning and generative AI.
You implement data quality checks, validation, observability, monitoring and traceable processes for handling data errors.
Document processing, metadata extraction, classification, data enrichment and information retrieval are also part of your tasks.
You consistently implement requirements for data security, access control, data protection, lineage, metadata and governance, making data provenance and responsibilities transparent.
You work with AI/ML engineers on training and evaluation data, feature engineering, retrieval data and test cases as well as with software engineers on APIs, services, deployment and operations.
You lead or support exploratory client workshops in which you translate business questions into data products, AI readiness improvements and concrete implementation steps.
You are also in demand in technical pre-sales: from discovery sessions and solution workshops to effort estimates and proposals to client presentations.
What you bring:
A completed degree in computer science, mathematics, natural sciences, engineering or a comparable qualification forms your professional foundation.
Several years of experience in data engineering, data architecture, analytics engineering, software engineering or a comparable discipline characterise your profile.
You have solid knowledge of Python and SQL as well as practical experience with data processing, orchestration and integration frameworks.
You are familiar with relational and non-relational databases, data warehouses, lakehouses, cloud storage and modern data platforms.
APIs, event streams, integration technologies and productive data pipelines are part of your technical toolkit.
You have experience with data quality, lineage, metadata, governance, data protection, access control and the secure handling of sensitive information.
You can process structured and unstructured data, including documents and knowledge sources.
You have practical knowledge of machine learning, generative AI, LLMs, embeddings, vector search and RAG and understand how these techniques use data.
You have experience preparing data for model training, evaluation, retrieval and AI-supported business processes.
Experience with integrating cloud-based or locally operated AI services and models into data pipelines, platforms or applications is an advantage.
You understand software architecture, APIs, testing, CI/CD, observability and the operation of data and AI services at a level that enables productive collaboration with software engineers.
You translate business challenges into technical data solutions and clearly explain data quality, availability, ownership, security, governance, costs and feasibility to different stakeholders.
Technical pre-sales, data assessments, migration approaches, solution consulting, effort estimates or proposal preparation are familiar to you or you have a strong interest in taking on these responsibilities.
You conduct workshops with technical decision-makers, business managers and stakeholders confidently and purposefully.
You work innovatively, entrepreneurially and pragmatically and recognise when better data foundations or processes are more important than an additional AI feature.
Very good German and English skills at least at C1 level
