Systems Engineer Automation & Equipment Engineering

We are looking for an engaged and qualified Systems Engineer Automation & Equipment Engineering to strengthen a dynamic engineering and production operations team for our industry-leading client located in Aadorf. In this role, you will play a key role in developing, optimizing, and realizing technical solutions for production machinery and equipment, driving continuous improvement, and ensuring high operational standards and plant safety.

Tasks & Responsibilities

• Automation & Equipment Engineering: Conceive, plan, program, and commission custom equipment, machinery, and automation solutions end-to-end, including parameterization and on-site go-live.

• Safety & CE Compliance: Ensure full compliance with relevant safety standards and CE directives, conducting risk assessments, Performance Level calculations, and validations for operational machinery.

• Cross-Functional Design Support: Develop functional diagrams and technical concepts in close collaboration with mechanical design and engineering teams.

• System Modernization & Standardisation: Support the continuous improvement, modernization (retrofit), and standardization of existing production systems and equipment.

• Technical Documentation & Asset Management: Create and maintain thorough technical documentation, electrical schematics, and bills of materials (BOMs), while sharing responsibility for critical spare parts management.

• 2nd-Level Support & On-Call Readiness: Support the maintenance team during complex equipment failures/troubleshooting and participate in 2nd-level on-call (Pikett) duty to ensure rapid incident resolution (max. 30-minute response/travel time to site).
  
   

Qualifications & Requirements (Must-Haves)

• Education: Completed technical basic vocational training (e.g., Automation Technician, Electrical Fitter) supplemented by a higher vocational degree (HF) in Systems Engineering, Mechatronics, Electrical Engineering, or a related discipline.

• Professional Experience: At least 3-4 years of hands-on experience in special machinery engineering, plant engineering, or industrial automation.

• Automation & Safety Expertise: Proven proficiency in PLC programming as well as solid working knowledge of CE conformity, risk assessment methodologies, and safety-related control system calculations (Performance Level).

• Proximity & Travel: Willingness and capability to perform 2nd-level on-call duty with a maximum 30-minute commute to Aadorf (ideally residing in the surrounding region, e.g., Winterthur, Frauenfeld, Wil SG, Pfäffikon ZH, or southern Thurgau).

• Language Skills: Professional fluency in German (written and spoken) is required.

• Personal Attributes: Strong organizational skills, self-driven problem-solving mindset, high attention to detail, and a collaborative team-player attitude.
  
   

Desirable Skills (Nice-to-Haves)

• Advanced Software Proficiency: Solid practical experience with Beckhoff TwinCAT 3 (including Motion Control and Safety modules).

• Higher Education: University of Applied Sciences degree (FH) in Systems Engineering or Automation.

• Modernization Experience: Background in retrofitting, modernizing, and optimizing legacy industrial production lines.

• Interdisciplinary Project Work: Track record of collaborating across cross-functional engineering teams (mechanical design, maintenance, and production).
