The Medical and Quality Directorate is tasked with ensuring the quality and safety of medical services provided by the Geneva University Hospitals. The Infection Prevention and Control Service (SPCI) is responsible for the control and prevention of infections and reservoirs of resistant microorganisms in the hospital environment. The service consists of a team of clinical nurse specialists (CNS), infectious disease physicians with clinical and research roles, students and doctoral candidates, epidemiologists, and IT specialists. The service is also a collaboration centre with the World Health Organization (WHO) concerning antibiotic resistance control and the prevention of nosocomial infections.
As part of your training in infectious diseases, you will join the SPCI with the aim of obtaining the advanced training diploma in IPC, certified by the ISFM. The training focuses particularly on epidemiology, microbiology, especially antibiotic resistance, environmental hygiene, disinfection/sterilisation, risk management, and behavioural sciences ( https://siwf.ch/files/pdf26/infektionspraevention_version_internet_f.pdf ).
Within the SPCI, you will participate in a variety of consultation activities with patients as well as professional, logistical, and operational teams. You will also contribute to epidemiological surveillance activities and care practices, notably by monitoring multi-resistant microorganisms and sporadic, epidemic, or endemic infectious events associated with care. The position also includes participation in training and teaching activities, including training new Geneva University Hospitals staff and leading thematic workshops. Finally, you will be involved in the promotion and research activities of the SPCI. In this capacity, you will have the opportunity to participate in ongoing observational and interventional clinical studies within the service.
As part of your core activities, you will be expected to contribute significantly to the national project for surveillance and prevention of bloodstream infections associated with central vascular catheters (CLABSI), in collaboration with other Swiss hospitals, particularly Swissnoso and the Federal Office of Public Health (FOPH). This activity includes coordination tasks, team management, research, communication, and implementation of surveillance and prevention modules at local and national levels.
Working in a stimulating and demanding academic environment within a multidisciplinary team, you will participate in supervising interns, students, and doctoral candidates. You will be supervised by the head physician and deputy physicians of the service and collaborate closely with the CNS team, physicians, and scientific staff.
Qualifications
You hold a federal medical diploma or have equivalent training recognised by the Medical Professions Commission of the Federal Office of Public Health (MEBEKO). You already hold the FMH in infectious diseases or are in training to obtain it. You have prior experience in general internal medicine or already hold an FMH in general internal medicine.
You are motivated, flexible, and autonomous, while appreciating working in a multidisciplinary team.
You have an excellent command of the French language (for non-French speakers, spoken and written French at level C1 is required) and excellent written and oral communication skills. Very good knowledge of English is also essential, and proficiency in another national language is an asset.
You have a solid foundation in clinical epidemiology and/or public health, and good knowledge of statistical software (e.g., R, STATA). Scientific writing skills, complemented by publications in international journals, are an advantage.
