Role:

On behalf of a client, we are looking for a creatively skilled professional for architectural design, competition work, and the development of sophisticated architectural concepts in an established Swiss architectural environment. You will independently handle architectural competitions and study commissions and develop independent design solutions for diverse building tasks in the areas of housing, education, work, leisure, and culture. The focus is on conceptual and analytical design work, architectural quality, and the convincing visual communication of design ideas. The project spectrum includes new builds, conversions, and heritage conservation projects, combining contemporary architecture with careful handling of the built environment.

Responsibilities:

• Independent development and handling of architectural competitions and study commissions for demanding new build and conversion projects

• Development of independent architectural design concepts considering urban planning, spatial organisation, usage, and design quality

• Analysis of competition programmes, building tasks, and site conditions as a basis for conceptual and architectural design development

• Development of floor plan concepts, building volumes, façade studies, and spatial design ideas for various building typologies

• Creation of competition plans, design representations, diagrams, and presentation materials to convincingly communicate architectural concepts

• Visualisation and atmospheric representation of architectural designs using digital models, image editing, layouts, and suitable presentation techniques

• Handling design tasks in listed and worthy-of-preservation buildings considering historical building fabric and heritage conservation requirements

• Development of concepts for conversions, changes of use, and building extensions focusing on architectural integration and sustainable development

• Review and optimisation of design variants regarding functionality, building law feasibility, cost-effectiveness, and sustainability

• Coordination of design and technical interfaces with architectural teams, specialist planners, and other project participants

• Presentation and professional discussion of design concepts within competition reviews, design reviews, and project presentations

• Participation in the further development of successful competition projects into preliminary and construction project phases while preserving the original architectural guiding idea

Qualifications:

• Completed architecture studies at ETH/FH or comparable recognised higher education in architecture

• Proven professional experience in handling architectural competitions and study commissions as well as independent development of sophisticated design concepts

• Solid knowledge in architectural design, urban analysis, spatial conception, and design project development

• Experience in preparing competition documents, especially design plans, diagrams, visualisations, and architectural presentations

• Confident use of common CAD, 3D modelling, and visualisation software, such as ArchiCAD, Rhino, Adobe Photoshop, Illustrator, or InDesign

• Knowledge of Swiss SIA planning phases and building law framework conditions as well as interest in building conservation and heritage conservation issues

• Good German language skills in spoken and written form for competition documentation, design presentations, and professional collaboration within the project team
