Role:
On behalf of the client, we are looking for an experienced leader as Head of Construction Projects / Architecture for the strategic and operational management of a demanding public real estate portfolio. You will be responsible for complex new build, conversion, and renovation projects from strategic planning to completion, ensuring high standards in architecture, sustainability, and cost-effectiveness. The project portfolio includes, among others, school, sports, cultural, and administrative buildings as well as architecturally and historically valuable existing buildings. In addition to leading a specialised project team, you will be responsible for project portfolio management, public procurement, and quality management and represent the client towards authorities, planners, and other project participants.
Responsibilities:
Professional and personnel management of a department for public building construction and real estate projects
Strategic management of a portfolio of new build, conversion, renovation, and existing projects
Client-side overall responsibility for complex projects from strategic planning through design and realisation to handover
Leadership and development of project managers and other construction professionals as well as management of personnel resources
Ensuring high architectural, functional, and construction quality across the entire project portfolio
Integration of sustainability, energy efficiency, life cycle costs, and resource conservation in planning and realisation
Responsibility for cost, schedule, quality, and risk management at project and portfolio level
Management of architectural firms, general planners, specialist planners, and contractors as well as coordination of complex project organisations
Responsibility for public procurement, planner and contractor tenders, and award procedures
Support of projects involving historically or architecturally valuable existing buildings considering corresponding protection and quality requirements
Development of strategies, decision bases, reports, project and credit applications for administration, authorities, and political bodies
Further development of project standards, processes, controlling instruments, and quality requirements in public building construction
Qualifications:
University degree as Architect FH/ETH/University or equivalent higher professional qualification
Many years of experience in leading large building construction, conversion, and renovation projects, ideally on the client side or in the public sector
Several years of professional and personnel leadership experience as well as experience managing an extensive project portfolio
Sound knowledge of SIA phases, Swiss building standards, and public procurement and tendering procedures
Experience with sustainable building, energy efficiency, building culture, and demanding existing buildings
Solid knowledge in project controlling, cost, schedule, quality, and risk management
Very good German or French language skills and willingness to work in a bilingual environment
