As an AI/ML Engineer, you develop and integrate machine learning and generative AI solutions into customer applications. You ensure that AI behaviour is useful, measurable, technically reliable and suitable for the respective business context.

You work with foundation models, large language models, embeddings, retrieval-augmented generation and agentic patterns. In doing so, you combine solid AI/ML expertise with a practical understanding of data foundations, software integration, security and the operation of productive solutions.

You are not only an implementation expert but also a discussion partner for our clients. In exploratory workshops, you help technical decision-makers, business managers and stakeholders to identify relevant AI use cases, assess their benefits and define actionable next steps.

As part of our Data & AI team, you work closely with data engineers, software engineers, architects and consultants. You support technical pre-sales activities, develop reusable solution patterns and contribute to further developing our Data & AI service portfolio.

What to expect:

• You develop and configure machine learning and generative AI solutions for specific customer and business requirements.

• You integrate cloud-based and locally operated foundation models and LLMs into applications, services and business processes. You always keep quality, latency, costs, data protection, security and data sovereignty in mind.

• Your daily routine includes embeddings, vector search, retrieval-augmented generation and prompt engineering, as well as agentic patterns for tool use and orchestration.

• You prepare models and AI features and evaluate them using appropriate datasets, test cases, metrics and human feedback.

• You analyse model behaviour, limitations, bias and failure modes and make assumptions, risks and limitations transparent for technical and professional stakeholders.

• You work with data engineers on data preparation, feature engineering, data quality, retrieval data and evaluation datasets, as well as with software engineers on APIs, application embedding, deployment and operation.

• You lead or support exploratory customer workshops in which you translate business challenges into viable AI opportunities, solution options and concrete work packages.

• You are also in demand in technical pre-sales: from discovery sessions and solution workshops to effort estimates and offers to customer presentations.

What you bring:

• Engineering or a comparable qualification forms your professional foundation.

• Several years of experience in AI/ML engineering, applied machine learning, generative AI, software engineering or a comparable discipline characterise your profile.

• You have solid knowledge of Python as well as practical experience with relevant AI/ML libraries and frameworks.

• Classical machine learning and statistical fundamentals as well as experience with experimental design and model evaluation are part of your toolkit.

• You are familiar with LLMs, embeddings, vector search, RAG, prompt engineering, AI agents and agentic application architectures.

• You have experience integrating cloud-based and locally operated models into applications or services.

• You can assess model behaviour, failure modes, bias, data protection, security and responsible AI aspects competently.

• You have a T-shaped understanding of data engineering: data ingestion, transformation, data quality, metadata, lineage, governance as well as structured and unstructured data are familiar to you.

• You understand software architecture, APIs, testing, CI/CD, observability and the secure operation of AI-supported applications at a level that enables productive collaboration with software engineers.

• You translate business challenges into technical solution concepts and explain complex AI topics clearly to technical, professional and executive stakeholders.

• Technical pre-sales, solution consulting, effort estimation, offer preparation or the preparation of customer presentations are familiar to you or you have a strong interest in taking on this responsibility.

• You conduct workshops with technical decision-makers, business managers and stakeholders confidently and purposefully.

• You think entrepreneurially, work innovatively and openly, and combine a spirit of experimentation with a sense of responsibility for quality, security and customer benefit.

• Very good German and English skills at least at C1 level enable you to communicate professionally with different stakeholders.
