Intelligent metering systems are a central backbone of modern energy supply. With the widespread introduction of smart meters and the emergence of new energy products on the market, the volume and importance of metering data is rapidly increasing. They form the basis for billing, network planning, load forecasts, and regulatory requirements. In the "Smart Meter Communication" team, we are responsible for the stable, secure, and reliable communication of around 400,000 smart meters. With the introduction of the new G3-Hybrid technology (communication via PLC or newly RF), we are creating this position to specifically strengthen our team in the field of communication technology. You will take on a key role in the setup, further development, and operation of the G3H communication between meters, gateways, and our head-end system (HES). In doing so, you will continuously develop into an expert for this technology and actively drive the corresponding know-how within the team and the industry.

What to expect

• You will become an expert in the G3-Hybrid technology (PLC and RF) as well as the relevant communication protocols and standards

• Configuration and optimisation of meters, gateways, and communication networks for stable and secure operation and support for the introduction and rollout of the new G3H technology
• Analysing network traffic (e.g. with Wireshark) and conducting laboratory and field tests to specifically investigate communication, identify faults, and develop sustainable solutions
• Developing your own tools and scripts for automating analyses and tests if required
• Clear documentation of technical concepts, configurations, and processes
• Close collaboration with internal teams, manufacturers, and suppliers, and networking across the industry (conferences, trade fairs, experience exchanges, ...)
• Monitoring technological developments and deriving recommendations for action for enersuisse
• Independently advancing your own topics and sharing expertise within the team and enersuisse

What you bring

• University degree (FH or university) in electrical engineering, communication technology, computer science, or comparable education/experience

• Experience with PLC and/or RF-based communication technologies
• Experience in software development (Python, Shell) to simplify and automate analyses and tests
• Knowledge of communication protocols and standards such as IPv6, 6LoWPAN, DLMS/COSEM, etc. is an advantage
• Experience in analysing network traffic (e.g. Wireshark) as well as understanding of network technology and security (e.g. TLS, PSK) is an advantage
• Analytical, structured, and solution-oriented working style
• Enjoyment in learning new technologies and passing on this knowledge
• Strong communication skills, team player, and independent
• Experience in collaborating with external partners, manufacturers, or industry committees
• Fluent German and English skills
