A Building IT Apprentice

(formerly Telematician)

Your mission

Your main mission will be to learn how to design, install and maintain communication infrastructures for our business clients: LAN networks, WiFi and IP telephony. Over the course of your four-year apprenticeship, you will progress from observation to autonomy, until you can carry out an installation yourself, from the first exchange with the client to commissioning.

In particular, your tasks will be:

- Supporting our business clients to understand their needs, then learning to translate them into concrete technical solutions.

- Sizing installations: how many WiFi access points, which network equipment, where to place them and how to connect them.

- Setting up Internet connections for our clients on our HFC and fibre optic infrastructures.

- Installing and configuring LAN networks, WiFi infrastructures and IP telephony solutions.

- Segmenting a building's network into VLANs and adjusting quality of service (QoS), so that each device — phones, cameras, workstations, visitor WiFi — has its place and the bandwidth it needs.

- Designing and deploying each installation by applying good IT security practices: at our clients, a network is protected as much as it is built.

- Deploying WiFi and networks for temporary events: a real challenge, with a short deadline and the obligation that everything works on the day.

- Participating in the management of servers that run our telephony solutions.

- Providing support and troubleshooting for our clients: diagnosing a network or WiFi failure, finding the cause and fixing it.

- Monitoring the proper functioning of installed equipment to react proactively.

- Collaborating with electricians responsible for cabling and with other trades present on site.

- Documenting the installations you carry out and writing the manuals that our clients will use daily.

- Training users on their new installation and supporting them in their first steps.

Your profile and personality

You have completed your compulsory schooling according to the required number of years (in CH, 11 years)

You are naturally positive and committed

You have an interest in new technologies

You enjoy teamwork and human contact

You are comfortable both behind a screen and on site, hands-on with the equipment

You are curious and methodical: you like to understand how things work and keep searching until you find out
