About the job
Take responsibility for highly available IT security solutions: In this role, you actively drive the modernisation and further development of network landscapes for regional customers.
Senior System Engineer Network
The environment - dynamic, customer-oriented, future-focused
You will become part of an established IT service provider in the Bern area, which has been owner-managed and stable for over two decades. A well-coordinated team supports a broad SME customer base throughout the entire IT lifecycle - from consulting and design to implementation, operation, and maintenance. The focus is on hybrid cloud and modern workplace solutions as well as IT security, closely aligned with the Microsoft ecosystem. You can expect an environment that values quality and customer proximity over size - with short communication paths and a lot of personal responsibility.
How you create added value
- You plan and implement network projects for our customers and in the SmartIT datacentre - from design and conception through configuration and migration to successful commissioning.
- You operate, optimise, and further develop modern network and firewall infrastructures, including in the areas of switching, routing, WLAN, firewall, and SD-WAN.
- You ensure stability, security, scalability, and availability of network infrastructures and guarantee reliable operation.
- You analyse complex faults in 3rd level support, resolve them sustainably, and bring your experience to demanding troubleshooting situations.
- You work closely with colleagues from systems engineering and security to develop integrated and future-proof IT architectures.
- You identify risks and vulnerabilities early, derive appropriate security measures, and support the continuous improvement of network and security environments.
- You further develop monitoring, standardisation, and automation solutions to detect faults early and make operational processes more efficient.
- You create clean technical documentation and ensure structured and comprehensible operational handovers.
- You actively contribute your senior expertise to the team, share knowledge with colleagues, and support technical questions in projects and operations.
What makes you the ideal candidate
- You have completed training as an IT specialist EFZ and ideally further training at HF, FH level or a comparable qualification.
- You bring several years of experience in network engineering or a comparable role.
- You have sound knowledge in routing, switching, WLAN, and firewall technologies.
- You have practical experience with FortiGate firewalls and a good understanding of network and security architectures.
- You are familiar with the operation and further development of network environments based on Aruba, Juniper, or Cisco.
- You have experience in planning and implementing infrastructure projects, for example in network modernisations, migrations, or firewall concepts.
- You work analytically, structured, and solution-oriented and keep an overview even in demanding situations.
- You appreciate teamwork, actively contribute, and enjoy sharing your knowledge with others.
- You have very good German skills as well as good English skills in spoken and written form.
- Certifications in the network or security environment, for example from HPE Aruba, Juniper, Cisco, or Fortinet, are an advantage.
