About the job
With more than 13,000 employees representing 160 professions, the Geneva University Hospitals are a reference institution at both national and international levels. To learn more about our institution, take a few minutes to consult our 2025 retrospective by clicking here .
With nearly 1,200 employees, the Acute Medicine Department (DMA) includes the services of anaesthesiology, clinical pharmacology and toxicology, intensive care, and emergency services. It fulfils a fourfold mission through its services, which provide their expertise in frequent interaction with the entire Geneva University Hospitals, thanks to a transversal platform, with the aim of ensuring the best possible patient care.
The Anaesthesiology Service is a transversal service of the HUG at the heart of the technical platform. With its 7 medical units and a research and innovation unit, its mission is to ensure the comfort and safety of patients during therapeutic or diagnostic procedures, medical or surgical, as well as during post-interventional care, while ensuring proper pain management.
As the largest centre in Switzerland in terms of the number of interventional procedures performed annually, the Anaesthesiology Service is at the forefront of advances made in this field. The service also provides pre- and post-graduate and continuing education for nurses and doctors in specialised training. As a service provider, anaesthesiology also intervenes in the field of interventional pain management and in life-threatening emergency situations both intra-hospital and pre-hospital alongside the Emergency Service.
As a nurse responsible for intrahospital and outpatient pain management, you ensure the care of patients presenting with acute, complex, or chronic pain across all sectors of the Cluse-Roseraie site.
You perform specialised pain assessments by analysing its characteristics as well as its functional impact, and support the patient in understanding chronic pain.
In close collaboration with the physician, you adapt treatments, monitor their effectiveness, assess adherence, and adjust care to prevent dosing errors and the chronicity of pain.
You implement and monitor advanced analgesic techniques or devices. Through a non-pharmacological approach, you use complementary techniques and supportive relationships to promote physical and psychological pain relief.
You conduct therapeutic education actions with patients and their relatives to strengthen therapeutic adherence, autonomy, and to identify beliefs, resources, and aggravating factors.
As a key player in the interdisciplinary approach, you actively collaborate with all health professionals to lead a personalised and coordinated therapeutic project.
Finally, you act as a referent for various medical and care partners to ensure the quality and coherence of pain management strategies within the institution.
As part of the position, 20% of the work is obligatorily to be performed in the PACU (post-anaesthesia care unit) and the intermediate peri-interventional care units (SINPI).
Qualifications
You hold a Bachelor of Science in Nursing or an equivalent recognised qualification by the Swiss Red Cross.
Two years of experience are required. Training in pain management is an asset. Training in hypnotic practice is to be expected.
You are proficient in common institutional applications and have excellent command of the French language, both spoken and written.
You possess a keen sense of organisation, priority management, and stress resistance.
You demonstrate versatility, adaptability, and excellent interpersonal skills.
Dynamic and motivated by nature, you are attentive and ready to commit to an institution whose relational values you share, namely trust, respect, team spirit, recognition, equality, and inclusion.
Finally, you demonstrate discretion and diplomacy in your daily practice.
