Linux Systems Engineer / DevOps
Context & Objectives
Work on critical Linux platforms with a dual objective: ensure a robust operational maintenance and advance the environment through automation and Infrastructure as Code.
The role aims to reduce operational workload through standardisation, improve reliability and security in production, and accelerate tool-supported technical changes.
On-call duty: 1 week per month.
Remote: 2 days per week
Start: ASAP
Main Responsibilities
1) Operational Maintenance / RUN
Ensure daily operation of a high-volume Linux fleet, manage N3 incidents and requests, and lead sustainable resolution through root cause analysis and action plans.
Maintain availability and performance: patching, remediation, capacity management, hardening, updates and compliance.
Operate and improve observability: monitoring, alerting, dashboards, alert noise reduction, threshold improvements.
Document and industrialise operations: procedures, runbooks, standards, tooling to limit manual actions.
2) DevOps / Automation / IaC
Develop and maintain automations with Ansible: roles, playbooks, inventories, templates, conventions, controlled execution, secret management according to established practices.
Build and evolve infrastructure with Terraform: modules, naming conventions, variables, states, reviews and change traceability.
Standardise builds and configuration: OS baselines, system configuration, packages, services, kernel parameters, hardening, accounts and permissions, logs.
Contribute to delivery practices on the infra side: pipelines, controls, validations, versioning and operational documentation.
3) Containers / Orchestration (appreciated)
Contribute to the operation and/or evolution of containerised environments: Kubernetes or equivalent orchestrator, observability integration, deployment best practices, standardisation of manifests and security policies.
Technical Environment
Linux (mainly Red Hat, open to other distributions).
VMware as the client’s virtualisation foundation.
Automation: Ansible.
IaC: Terraform.
Orchestration: Kubernetes appreciated or equivalent.
Typical tooling and related components: monitoring/metrics/logs, configuration management, patch management, backup solutions, ticketing and ITSM tools depending on context.
Desired Profile
Proven experience in Linux production administration in a high-volume environment: several hundred Linux machines.
Operational mastery of Ansible and Terraform in real-world contexts.
Knowledge of virtualised environments VMware and their operational constraints.
Reliability and industrialisation mindset: reducing manual work, standardisation, useful documentation, continuous improvement.
Availability for immediate start.
