About the job
Location: Geneva · Contract: Permanent · Assignment: long term · Rate: 100% · Start: February 2027
For one of our clients based in Geneva, we are looking for a senior ITOps & SecOps Observability Engineer.
Context
The Operations department manages the organisation's IT and printing productions. It oversees an operational supervision centre responsible for continuous monitoring of batch production, the operational status of services (several hundred applications), and operational analysis.
As part of strengthening its performance and availability management strategy, the team is seeking an observability engineer whose skills will serve IT supervision and operational cybersecurity.
In collaboration with the Splunk functional referent, you will be the operational right hand tasked with translating business and technical needs into concrete solutions (dashboards, alerts, data models). The role is functional, analytical, and data exploitation-oriented: you manage the entire value chain on the ground, from deployment and configuration of data collection to the creation of dynamic hypervision cockpits.
Your missions
Deploy Splunk collection probes: configure and install agents (forwarders) on various servers and equipment to capture relevant log and metric streams
Develop Splunk exploitation: translate the operational requirements of the functional referent into complex SPL queries and design highly valuable interactive dashboards
Build the service observability: connect and correlate data from supervision tools within Splunk to provide end-to-end visibility of on-premise and Cloud infrastructures
Optimise alerting: model and refine alert thresholds to eliminate false positives and ensure the relevance of notifications sent to Ops, R&D, and Security teams
Guide and promote: establish logging standards (e.g. JSON formats) with development teams and lead SPL initiation workshops
Support technical needs: formally express architecture or storage evolution requirements to the team responsible for Splunk technical administration
Education
HES diploma, Bachelor in Computer Science or equivalent degree
Essential skills
3 to 5 years of experience or more
Splunk analytical expertise: excellent mastery of Splunk SPL query language (essential), writing advanced correlation calculations, creating macros, and modelling business data
Splunk collection and probes: mastery of deployment, configuration, and setup of Splunk collection agents (Universal Forwarders, Heavy Forwarders, Technical Add-ons)
Observability concepts and tools: proven ability to consolidate multi-source alerts (infrastructures and applications) to design comprehensive and dynamic control cockpits
Foundations in traditional supervision: thorough knowledge of classic monitoring mechanisms (performance thresholds, system counters, availability indicators) and at least one market supervision tool (Centreon, Zabbix, Nagios, PRTG, Datadog or equivalent)
Appreciated skills
Modern telemetry culture: good understanding of observability pillars (logs, metrics, traces) and openness to market standards such as OpenTelemetry (OTel)
IT operations culture: good knowledge of the functioning, needs, and constraints of IT operations, as well as ITIL methods
Application understanding: general knowledge of modern architectures (APIs, microservices) and containers (Docker, Kubernetes)
A plus
Hypervision and reporting ecosystem: knowledge of OpsBridge solutions (event consolidation) and/or Power BI (reporting and analytical management)
ITSM processes and tools: knowledge and practice of ITSM tools for linking hypervision and incident management
Third-party visualisation: knowledge of Grafana, Perses or Prometheus to cross-reference certain metrics
Automation: scripting basics (Python, Bash) or deployment tools (Ansible) to industrialise the deployment of collection probes
Splunk certifications: a user-oriented or basic administration certification (e.g. Splunk Core Certified Power User or Advanced Power User)
Personal qualities
Rigour, responsibility and analytical ability: methodological precision, rigour in handling large volumes of technical data, and a sense of responsibility towards critical operated services
Solution orientation, composure and production appetite: pragmatic mindset, calm during critical incidents, and a strong interest in the IT production world
Communication, listening and teamwork: interpersonal ease, listening skills, and ability to collaborate with diverse stakeholders
Knowledge sharing and adaptability: enthusiasm for transmission and pedagogy, open attitude towards changes and technological evolutions
