About the job
An autonomous public law institution of the Republic and Canton of Neuchâtel, established across several service sites and supported by around sixty employees, mainly distributed in the road and operational and safety equipment sectors, NEVIA (Neuchâtel Establishment for the Viability of Motorway Infrastructures) ensures the operation and routine maintenance of the N5 – Yverdon-Bienne and N20 - Le Locle – Anet motorway routes.
Activities:
Leading a team of about 10 road workers-driver(s), you ensure the organisation, coordination and monitoring of road network maintenance activities. As team leader, you perform a role of close management.
You supervise and support your team daily, ensure smooth collective functioning and contribute to the implementation of the institution’s orientations, rules and decisions.
In this capacity, your main tasks include:
- planning short- and medium-term activities and missions assigned to your team and participating in their medium-term organisation;
- organising and distributing daily work and conveying clear instructions;
- ensuring the daily management of your team, motivating and empowering employees and contributing to the development of their autonomy;
- providing regular feedback, recognising contributions and intervening constructively when adjustments or corrections are necessary;
- promoting a constructive and respectful working atmosphere and contributing to managing relational or organisational situations within the team;
- monitoring and controlling the proper execution of completed work; ensuring compliance with and application of the institution’s rules, procedures, directives and decisions;
- ensuring compliance with safety rules and instructions;
- organising and controlling the installation and removal of temporary signage;
- monitoring the road network and its surroundings;
- organising and participating in interventions necessary to restore infrastructures, notably following accidents;
- participating in the training, integration and development of employees;
- coordinating certain interventions carried out by external companies or contractors;
- working closely with the chief road engineer, other team leaders, the principal team leader and management, contributing to exchanges and ensuring good information flow;
- actively participating in the coordination of road sector activities and proposing improvements to its functioning;
- supporting organisational and operational changes within the institution, explaining their purpose and contributing to their implementation with your team;
- taking part in the on-call service.
Required profile:
- Federal VET Diploma or equivalent qualification;
- holder of a heavy goods vehicle driving licence;
- several years’ experience in road or construction site work;
- proven experience in team leadership and demonstrated ability to exercise close leadership;
- strong and constructive leadership, with the ability to motivate, empower and develop employees;
- good organisational, planning and decision-making skills;
- ability to give and receive feedback and to manage delicate human or relational situations constructively;
- ability to set clear frameworks and ensure rules, directives and decisions are respected with consistency and discernment;
- clear, constructive communication adapted to different interlocutors;
- sense of responsibility, exemplary conduct and ability to take a step back;
- collaborative spirit and ability to work constructively with hierarchy, peers and other sectors of the institution;
- ability to uphold decisions made, explain their purpose and support their implementation within the team;
- openness, adaptability and ability to support changes and developments within the institution;
- ability to work variable hours and demonstrate flexibility;
- proficiency in common office tools (Word, Excel and Outlook);
- residence close to the workplace (about 15 to 20 minutes).
