Tasks
Subject responsibility and funding management: You take on subject responsibility for selected topics, review project and programme applications, prepare dossiers and decision-making bases, and accompany the approval, implementation and reporting of funding contributions.
Controlling and risk management: You are responsible for the controlling and risk management of the specialist unit, further develop the corresponding instruments and prepare analyses, forecasts and key figures. In addition, you plan and accompany external project and financial audits.
Concepts and quality assurance: You contribute to the development of funding concepts, evaluation instruments and quality standards and support the specialist unit management in strategic issues and political reporting.
Cooperation and communication: You work closely with the IZA Commission, cantonal authorities as well as national and international partner organisations. You conduct location and project visits and prepare specialist content and data in a target group-oriented manner.
Profile
Experience: You have at least three years of professional experience in international cooperation, possess relevant specialist expertise and sound knowledge in controlling and risk management. You are familiar with the IZA-relevant networks, actors and framework conditions.
Personality: You bring pronounced analytical and conceptual skills. You are characterised by independence, quality awareness as well as team spirit and solution orientation – also in complex political and intercultural contexts.
Education: You hold a master’s degree in International Cooperation, Sustainable Development or a related field. Further training in controlling, risk management or public law is an advantage.
Language: You have very good German and English skills, both spoken and written, good French skills as well as pronounced communication skills for working in a heterogeneous international environment.

The maintenance of regional, national and international relations forms the core of the work of the External Relations and Location Marketing Department, which belongs to the Presidential Department of the Canton of Basel-Stadt. It is committed to various measures for effective marketing of the canton. Its goal is to build an international network with personalities from a wide range of fields and thus generate added value for Basel. These tasks serve to position the canton as an important location in international competition.
The External Relations and Location Marketing Department is also responsible for international cooperation (IZA) to reduce poverty and strengthen sustainable development in low- or middle-income countries. Since January 2026, IZA funding has been expanded. It includes contributions to projects and programmes of non-profit organisations, targeted cooperation with partner regions as well as emergency aid and follows clear quality criteria regarding impact, efficiency, sustainability and transparency.
