The Library of Geneva (BGE) is a service of the Department of Culture and Digital Transition. Founded in the 16th century, responsible for the cantonal Legal Deposit, it holds the oldest and most important heritage collection in French-speaking Switzerland, comprising notably manuscripts, books, maps, posters, scores, photographs, and archives – important for the academic community and the general public of the region. The collections of the Library of Geneva are distributed across four sites located at Bastions, the Iconography Centre, La Musicale, and Les Délices. Librarian in charge of periodicals at 80%
Your mission and responsibilities
- Manage the "press and journals" collection (paper and electronic), notably the heritage periodicals collection.
- Welcome and train the public, initiate and contribute to cultural mediation activities within your area of expertise.
- Participate in the operation of the Local Coordination of Scientific Libraries of the City of Geneva as a subject matter expert.
- Perform all activities necessary for the preservation of heritage and the management of an information service of the City of Geneva.
Your profile
- Hold a Bachelor of Science in Information or an equivalent qualification.
- Have at least 4 years of professional experience in a similar position; professional experience in a heritage library is an advantage.
- Master the Alma Integrated Library System and the cataloguing rules in force within the SLSP network and be comfortable with common IT tools.
- Show interest in technological developments related to information professions.
- Possess excellent writing skills, with the ability to simplify technical or scientific content clearly and accessibly.
- Demonstrate autonomy, a good team spirit, and the ability to work in transversal and collaborative environments.
